Unrestricted free agent and a clear upgrade on someone like Mitch hannan or James harmes.

Surely worth a look?

Cost nothing but money, and has much more talent than the overwhelming majority on our list.

Would love to see him play for us, but injuries surely a concern?

Very lazy player who often finds himself in space due to the fact he doesn't follow a man wen out of possession.  Has had 22 tackles and 15 1%s from 17 games this year.

We often criticise Watts and Gartlett for their defensive efforts:

Jack Watts 42 tackles from 16 games.

Jeff Gartlett 74 tackles from 21 games.

Pretty damning stats there

So he already has a handle on game plan and culture. It's a yes from me.

Ouch. Close thread before Slobo gets hold of it

Would be a great pick-up if we don't value forward pressure. The guy can kick goals, but is incapable of pretty much anything else. Suspect body too.

Firm no.

Similar to JT for me. Has the talent but lacks the speed/agility and ability to apply pressure. you cannot play fwd without this unless if a very good team

They are reporting that Cats are thinking about whether to give him a contract even though he kicked 30 odd goals

its a pity that athletic ability is surpasing talent as a pre-requistite but there you go

No it's not athletic ability surpassing talent, but rather effort.

Has some x-factor but as mentioned in an earlier post, his defensive pressure is a serious concern. I'd prefer getting more games into Hannan. Maybe even Fritsch if we draft him.

I think that's why Geelong is not rushing to sign him.

Menzel is a very good footballer but I just can't see this being a good fit. Decent overhead but we need much more defensive forward pressure. Also fear for him breaking down at any second.

He can take a grab, and if there is something we need more of its contested marks.

Shame about the lack of pressure/effort though.

Factor in his injury history and its a reluctant pass from me.

Perfect player for us... his lazyness will give us a permanent forward inside 50. Lol

I am sick of seeing an empty forward 50 when going forward.

If we dont have to give up a draft pick or player. I would consider. Dangerous player and can kick goals. And is surprisingly 190cm. Allows Garlett to work up the ground and use his pace.

8 goals in two games v Dees. Match winner!

More chance of returning to Adelaide and playing with his brother. Could be key to any potential 3 way trade for Lever if Menzel does leave.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
