TMac and Brown are both in almost any identical positions, so I'm not sure that swap makes any strategic sense and it has the potential to blow up if TMac comes good.

At the right price, absolutely yes. Weid as the third tall, TMac at CHF and Brown at FF. If all captured their best form surely we could kick a winning score??

Ben Brown is a good player and if available for a second round pick hard not to look at it. My fear would be the ball too often comes out of our forward line without any pressure and he is not helping with that and a bit similar to the Weid. But maybe we have to look at trading Weiderman for a midfielder / winger.

Joe last year: 25.6 years old, 2 years removed from a 65 goals, 352 disposal, 153 mark season.

Ben this year: 27.9, 1 year removed from a 64 goals, 108, 244 disposal season.

If we say key forwards are done at 30 then Joe had 4 or 5 years of peak and a better peak - 50% more marks and disposals.

Ben has 2 or 3 years of peak and it's a lower peak.

The age factor is the key. You can't pay too much for a guy who's only giving a few seasons even if they are good seasons.

My concern would be that Brown's best work is on the lead, not bombs on top of his head. We haven't got that out of our system in 3 years. Why the f would we start now???!!!

Yep. At least when we did it with Watts we dressed it up a bit as though it was going to be better for him to go rather than stay. Plus we were never getting much anyway.

North have tanked Brown's value and now they've told him to go find a new club he's in an even stronger spot for that new club to say we aren't paying all that much for this guy.

Exactly what I was thinking. He fixes a major stat issue we have, frees for inside F50. But then again, would they still pay the frees if he's in red and blue?

He was not drafted until he was 21, so only 7 years in the system. I would think he has at least 4 years left. Would they offload Polec and Brown for a second round pick? Guess how much salary we are prepared to take on would be a factor?

They may be in similiar positions but Brown is a much better bet.

Tmac has had 2 shocking seasons in a row.

He has only had 1 successful year as a forward.

Most of this time with Hogan in the side tmac pulled the 2nd best oppo defender.

Prior to this season which wasnt complete and very topsy turvy Brown kicked 60 goals plus 3 years in a row with every teams best defender on him.

60 goals plus for 3 successive years is Elite.

Nmelb are making a big mistake.

We should grab him for the right price.

Is this a serious consideration? We already have one tall, thinly built witches hat in the forward line who can only take a mark on the lead and is useless when the ball hits the ground. Why would we want another?

And if it came down to a choice between Weideman and Brown, I'd take the one who is five years younger and whose pay packet is half the size.

Interesting also how many people have written off Tom McDonald, but imagine that Brown will miraculously return to form in new colours.

If there was any possibility that we could pick up a proven, 27 year old, injury-free, 60 goal a year full forward on the cheap then we would be absolutely mad not to go hard. If he was asking to leave MFC, we'd all be hoping for multiple first round picks. If we could get him for a second rounder, we would take the deal and run away laughing.

Because he'll kick 2-3 goals a game, allow the Weid to take the second best defender and make it incredibly difficult for opposition defenders to take marks in our forward 50. 

He is about as close to an instant forwardline fix as you can get.

I haven't completely given up on TMac, but his body and confidence are clearly shot. It's now been 2 years since he played a decent game and he moves like an old man. Brown has played 9 poor games, in a bizarre season in which he endured personal tragedy, which from all reports was poorly managed by a basket case of a club. His body is fine. It would hardly take a miracle to see him return to form - quite the opposite. He has serious runs on the board.

tom McDonald doesn't have the decision making skills  to be played in defence. that's what made him a good forward. see ball, mark ball, kick goal. he isnt a defender

If the club is happy with where his body is at, and he doesn't cost the earth, you'd be absolutely stupid not to go there.

Good age profile, prolific and proven goal kicker, he can do a bit of forward rucking too. 100% a yes for me if the circumstances fit. He would be a massive upgrade on McDonald. 

And LOL at people saying he can only play in space as a lead up forward. Maybe that is exactly the sort of bloody game plan we should have, given in normal seasons we play on the wide open spaces of the MCG! He is someone we can structure a forwardline around, and who would take the best defender each week, giving Weideman more time to develop, and Jackson some free hits.
