I'm told by a Norf insider that Goldstein has had groin trouble which was being treated "in house".

The problem flared up when Mrs Goldy found out.

So they replaced him with Majak who is morally perfect.

That's gold(stein) Biff.

I think Pederson would have given more than Watts yesterday. Difficult to drop him (Watts) after only one game, and he's obviously improved enormously this last year or so...

Don't think they'll do that swap, but I wouldn't mind it.

Nah, if you remember Gawn and Hogan had ordinary games when they came back from injury too, but starred on Saturday until Max went down injured after half time. On Saturday, Max was on track to be on the best 3 on the ground before he got injured, and the injury was the major reason we did not run away with it in the second half. Watts was clearly rusty but we really need him in top form as we move towards finals. He will not get that in the twos. Similarly Trenners if the club believes he has a long term future.

Clearly we need to move to our best team asap. That will depend on whether the players are considered to be in our top 22 AND their current form. watts is definitely in the top 22, Trengove possibly not although it would be great to see him put in a couple of blinders in the meantime.

I don't know why clubs would tank for the first pick these days.  It's strike rate is no better than the second pick, or the third pick and so on.*

*I have no evidence to back this up, total assumption.

At the moment Trengove is in the side. Vince comes back in another week, someone else could get injured or Trengove might be moved to another role.

It is not as simple as saying it is a decision between Vince and Trengove.

Thanks for good discussion.  Im not sure that Im rating Trenners that high yet (if it was purely 1v 1 id probably go JKH on form). Im trying to be objective and look at it structurally (ie position) instead of on favourites but that isnt always easy! Your take on midfield minutes is just as valid as mine, and no idea how the coaches will see it.

What I do know is that Trenners didn't do anything special. No attacking drive, no creative play etc.  So my gut says her didn't add a whole lot of value.  But when I consider his steady possessions, his good positioning which led to a reasonably good defensive job, and his on field leadership (directing players, structural control etc) I wonder if those things are more valuable given we have a lot of creative types in defence already.

Did those structural directions and leadership help us have our best defensive half for the year? Im not sure. But we rarely had opposition players out the back or loose, something that has plagued us this year. Maybe there is something to be said for on field positioning over creative flare sometimes!

Yeah. Add to that the perhaps natural improvement a bit of confidence will produce. Will he go from 15 to 20 then 25 touches...

And yeah very interesting. I've always thought that Jetta is our only pure shut down guy. Omac, TMac and Frost as the bigs all have rebounding and possession winning as strengths. Hibberd is a sensational set up guy. Lewis too. Salem. Hunt. They're all KNOWN rebounders. So you may be right. A stay at home guy with a simple job could excel. And yes, we did look THAT good in the first half that you have to look closely at how we got it so right. Certainly if we take on the Power again.

I love Jack. And want the best for him. But I also consider the knowns. When he did get his few games back a couple of years ago, he was one of those Brock McLean fast starter types who'd have 12 touches at quarter time, and 20 by the end of the game. I worry that what we saw yesterday is his ceiling. I will say this though... he's still a beautiful user. How do we harness that.

I don't think they'd have any intention on taking pick 1 to the draft. I suspect they'll be trying to tempt the afl funded giants into giving up that number 22 bloke

Unless someone in the 22 is injured, no change this week.

This team should be more than capable of getting the job done against the equal-worst side in the competition.

Assuming Jones is ready the following week, likely to be the lesser of Trengove and JKH.

I will also say I'm not convinced Vince walks back into the side after his suspension. His form this year has been rubbish IMO.

By winning today, Brisbane have opened the door for North to take the spoon if they want it.

Conversely, if North win against us next week, they jump up to 16th (pick 3). Gotta wonder what they'd prefer...

If fit, and docs say yes I would say drop Trenners and bring in Jones.

I like Trenners and all that but if it's between him, Vince and Jones then the answer is obvious.

HOWEVER, I think they will give Jones another week and leave the team unchanged. (Would love to see Trenners play well and make the decision a hard one!)
Vince a week later...The only player I would say that will make way for him would be JKH and frankly, he has been impressive on his return, good tackling, speed, and has been taking the game on and backing himself so that's no certainty.

Boy oh boy it feels good to have the good selection dramas again as opposed to fielding our depth depth players (And still playing pretty well ;) )

Probably not the right thread for this but I reckon there is a good chance we will absolutely spank north this week. They have every reason to loose and we have everything to gain. Dees by 93 points

Might be good time to rest a couple of younger players and get the team ready for the finals.

Oliver finished up limping and might come up sore. Hunt hasn't taken a break since his knockout against Adelaide. ANB, harmes and hannan might also be due for a break.

Could be good list management in preparation for the finals.

Not sure I agree with that. I reckon we need to go hard from now on and hit finals in good form. We will get a week break prior to finals to freshen up and recovery before we sweep all aside to claim the premiership trophy!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
