Nat Jones

Jones is one of my absolute fav players at this great club. He has been through as many bad times as anybody on the list and I still love watching him play and the way he goes about it which is exactly why I found his comments today on Bernie Vince so disappointing.

Nathan you are a very good and valued leader of the club but when you take the stage like a pissant and publicly attack a member of your own group you become a bureaucrat rather than a leader. A real leader would go to Bernie and take that up with him alone if you really believe the rubbish you presented today.

MFC were down and out on the weekend and it was Bernie who flew the flag, not you or many of your teammates. Show some respect for people that play with the passion for the jumper, the jumper that we the members support and you have fought so hard for throughout your career.

your content is terrible.

Well Teamplayedfine69 that is extraordinarily insightful but do you have any thoughts on why a team leader would throw a team member under the bus?

I wonder, we might be a couple more wins up with a little less of that particular 'flying the flag'.

If only some more players 'flew the flag' the way Big Demon likes it, because one thing we definitely need right now is one of our last remaining experienced midfielders being out for two weeks.

How did Jones attack Vince? I missed his comments.

While praising Vince's energy and 'fire' on the field, and noting what a gentle and harmless person Vince is off field, he said Vince should probably have a think about and learn to not swing his arms around near people's heads, because three times in two seasons is getting a bit much.

I know, right, like, totally thrown under the bus.

I'm assuming you're referring to the quotes in this article:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/melbourne-cocaptain-nathan-jones-says-bernie-vince-needs-to-smarten-himself-up-20170718-gxd9zj.html

"We went through it yesterday with him, obviously he's disappointed by it but he really does need to smarten himself up particularly in that area

"It's happened far too often with him over the last 12 or 18 months, he's been done too many times and then we saw on the weekend just due to a poor record last night he's gained the extra week as well."

"It's frustrating for us because he's a very important player for us, he did a terrific job on Sloaney [Adelaide's Rory Sloane] on the weekend and we're definitely going to need him, especially with some of the injuries we've got but unfortunately we don't and I'm sure he's pretty remorseful for it.

"We're disappointed in it but we have to move on and I'm sure he'll give back to the group as much as he can over the next couple of weeks and repay us when he returns."

"He does fire himself up, there's no doubt about that. He's one of the absolute nice guys off the field, he's a ripping fella, one of my real good mates. When he gets out on the field he definitely plays right on the line on the edge and I think too many times he's gone too close to it or just over it and we're feeling the pinch from it because he's going to miss a couple of weeks," Jones said.

"He has to tidy up those errant elbows or those errant arms that have cost him in the past ... that intensity of the game in the moment, he's overstepped."

So that's what Jones said... where's the bus that he's supposedly thrown Bernie under?? Nothing harsh or unfair and Bernie is one of the most senior and experienced players on our list, he has for the second time this year, disqualified himself from playing due to ill discipline.  If anything, he says more positive comments about Bernie than negative in that article.

Nathan Jones is the captain of our club, the question was asked about our 'culture' and he demonstrated that our culture and leadership is strong and we don't tolerate players throwing matches away.  We need our best 22 on the park.

No one plays with more passion than Nathan Jones, but when was the last time he was suspended?  I think you're overstepping the mark in questioning his respect for teammates and passion for the club.

Thanks for the clarification on what Jones said, there was certainly no 'attack' on Vince. As usual, Jones was spot on.

This shouldn't be a thread. Nek minnit Barrett writes an article on tension between Jones and Vince.

Well Teamplayed we like every other club are a team. Nat needs to buckle down and understand that Bernie has been much closer to the pinnacle than he and knows what it takes.

Think of the greatest teams teams the game has seen, Hawks in the 80's hmmm Brereton, Dippa etc, Hawks recently Hodge and co, Lions a decade ago , these teams are not made of the type of player who is going to sit and hope - they are the Bernie Vince and Jack Vineys of the world and Nat now has the chance to play serious finals for the first time in his career but he needs to learn from the likes of Bernie rather than chastise him.

100% agree. And it always makes me suspicious when a poster with hardly any posting history starts a thread that is 'controversial' and solely focused on criticising the club or a player - in this instance our much loved and respected captain.

To quote repo man. I call [censored] on that

And how much 'closer to the pinnacle' will Bernie be getting us in the next two weeks??

Was about to write the same thing. Well. Sort of.

I reckon it's moreso a reflection of the fact a lot of happy MFC supporters now want to have a voice... And haven't quite got the gist of posting on demonland.

Bin man, I didn't reaiise that being relatively new to the site and starting a thread that you consider controversial was a crime.

Having a guy stand up publicly and critisise a member of our club or use some other angle like smarten up is [censored] regardless of what you say, I say or anybody else says he can talk to that player in his own time any day if the week. It is just grandstanding and not what any strong club is built on,

Who said anything about a crime? Not me.

But now that you have mentioned it i say your OP is crime on logic as has been made clear by TPF39's post with its direct quotes of what 'Nat Jones' actually said.

And lest there be any confusion, I am calling you out as a troll.

Vince has to be accountable for his reckless actions... and by that I mean accountable not only to his fellow leaders, players and coaches, but to the members and supporters in general. Jones was simply echoing what many supporters were no doubt thinking, and by doing so was making a statement that at such a crucial time in our season, Vince has made our task in making finals, that little bit more difficult. Vince is a big boy... he'll wear it and hopefully come out firing in an effort to make amends.

How is Bernard helpful to the team sitting in the Grandstand for the next 2 weeks?

Has nathan jones kicked your cat? By the way jones has played in finals back in 2006, nothing he said was throwing Bernie under the bus and I would bet my left nut that bernie would agree with everything jones said

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
