Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Media Going Hysterical

The media is doing what the media always do, find a story and [censored] the crap out of it. Forget facts or actually analysing the game, it's all about headlines and relevance. Take Robert Walls for example, I honestly thought he'd retired from the media I hadn't heard anything from him in a long time, what does he do to gain relevance again? He takes a pot shot at low hanging fruit that's already being smashed by everyone else. Easy cheap headline from a guy who has become irrelevant.

Only the intelligent ones will analyse our list vs our injury list, consider that we've had multiple 6 days breaks plus travel from Perth, and also take into account we have won 4 in a row and the team we lost to is probably the form team in the comp.

But they won't get the headlines because it's not sensationalist. It's truthful, and therefor boring.

Ok, let me make myself unpopular!

I reckon virtually every post on this thread is a 'woe is me', hand wringing post. It's true that 'the media' will try and wring out any drop of controversy and often present anything but a balanced view. But to suggest they're out to get lil' old Melbourne because they don't want their old favourite "Established to fall"  is just nonsense.

A week ago we were the darlings of the media, last year the success of the Bulldogs, (another minnow club), was greeted with incredible acclaim. Mark Stevens and Scot Gullan are Bulldogs supporters.

We are the story of the last four days and will be tomorrow. Then the spotlight will move to something/one else. As the old saying used to go, 'today's headlines are tomorrows fish and chips wrappers'.

As for haven't been part of serious action for 53 years, c'mon!  Have you forgotten 87 to 94 - a Grand Final and a couple of Prelims,  98 to 06, - a Grand Final and a couple of prelims.

The so-called media is not a monolithic entity where everyone thinks alike. There are some particularly strange and very slanted people like Dwayne Russell and Mark Robinson. Then there are people who are quite different, like Gerard Whateley and David Schwarz. This thread sounds very much like a Donald Trump tirade against the media.

As if this is going to make it tough for the club going forward, if anything the current sh*tstorm should galvanise the players and the club. As for Demonlanders, apparently we are not made of such stern stuff, so we will quiver like a blancmange.

Ok, now I'm gonna take a deep breath!

I'm old enough to remember our 1987 run - we were media darlings for that whole run into the finals and then right through September. Same in 1998 and 2000.  The media love a good story.  We will probably still be that if we can win 4-5 of the next 8.  Unfortunately, some undisciplined actions have brought the blowtorch upon us.  That's fine and deserved.  It's part of becoming a successful and mature club.  Our leadership group need to pull a few egos into line.  Not the media's fault.

And to actually be fair, they do it because it's their job to sell newspapers/online traffic. I'm not so much defending them but the only thing better than a good news story is sensational controversial story. Bugg's cheap shot was the bullet in the gun to let them pull the trigger. There's already been talk of an attitude change with us, that we're not content being the nice boys of Melbourne. Until now it's been positive and they've enjoyed pumping it up. Now BT reckons we've blown our chance to get more Friday night action because one of our players punched a guy. Give me a spell.

True, but we were part of serious action.

Our real chance and the one that got away was 1990. We had the team, we got a rest and we had the wood on Collingwood and Essendon. But we let West Coast jump us at Waverley and missed our best chance in half a Century. Now that is something to get upset about, not the piddly media rubbish.

As Jimmy used to say "Fook Em!"

With expectations will come scrutiny and snipers looking to score points kicking us on a down day.

The boys (Bugg and the four idiots) opened us up for such scrutiny. We need to hang tough and take our hits without losing focus,

Oh i am not upset about it. I just hope the club is strong, because the Media would rather rip us to shreds than see us have sustained success.

Media waste a lot of time:

Win over Dogs - all about Bugg tweet.

Win over Eagles - all about Oliver, contact or not.

Loss to Swans - all about Bugg swatting Mills, 6 weeks, bad for the game. Bugg was unlucky his skills usually aren't that pinpoint, normally would have fresh aired the punch!

The team that went on the field last Friday night for the Dees might have beaten the Swans one in ten.

Hopefully we get a few back this week and can conjure up a victory against the Blues. Jones, Viney, Salem and if Tyson misses is a huge chunk of our midfield top talent out. Not to mention Brayshaw!

Fingers crossed for Sunday, go Dees.

I just can't believe how over the top the media have been since Friday night. We lose our first game in 5 weeks & the media have completely gone overboard. Danny Frawley claiming because of our performance we were drinking our on bath water reading to much about ourselves. Micky Malthouse saying the same & telling Melbourne to grow up. In my opinion this is way over the top has anyone taken into account our 3 concecutive 6 day breaks the last 6 day break coming back from Perth in a night match which also meant we had to stay in Perth until Sunday. What about the injury list going into friday night we had 5 of our best 10 players out Jones, Hogan, Watts, Salem & Garlett. Let me see another club have 5 of there best 10 players out after 3 concecutive 6 day break & the last one coming home from Perth in a night match having to stay in Perth overnight let see how they perform & i bet my life if they performed like we did & were flat they would excuse them. Lets just hold off for a few weeks & settle down

Yeah, the hysterical response was for beating the Crows who've been shown as a bit fragile, Pies who are crap, Dogs who are limping, and Eagles who aren't that much chop.

Jumping off us is too... but it's just a load of media being media. They all need a feed... and noone's willing to admit there isn't enough good footy going round to keep all those ex players employed.

I think the truth is somewhere in between what they're saying when positive and negative. We're making a few mistakes here and there, but we're playing with a flair and confidence we haven't in... well... ever. Certainly not since these kids have been playing football.

Pay no attention. Not too many people do.

Trouble is, we're interesting.

Couple of weeks ago; "Demons surge into premiership contention on back of ferocious, team-first game".

This week; "Demons have unrealistic view of their position, lack team culture and are over-the-top with their aggression"

I'll rephrase. Trouble is, we're interesting and they're vapid gits.

We'll cope.

I met Frawley a few times. Nice guy, but very old school. I once asked him how he thought his cousin (chip) was going when he was playing for us, he basically rolled his eyes and said he was ok, but not that great. Im not sure if it was a family thing, but i got the feeling it was because he was playing for us. Sometimes the sentiment against clubs runs deep. Maybe it goes back to his coaching or playing days, who knows. But hes never rated us and probably never will. Hes probably just glad weve fallen back down to where people are used to seeing us, on the canvas.

I really would take anything he ever says about Melbourne with a grain of salt.

Anyone note the number of ex Tiger players getting stuck into Houli? Kev no 10 from back pocket, no?. Anyone openly critical at all?

At Melbourne i hope like hell, that aside from Bugg copping his due, the full story of which, we'll probably never know, this is the biggest call to arms (with a lid on it) that this Club has ever stirred this century and last. It will need to be bloody Dunkirk/Normandy all over again only don't tell anyone it's happening.........

Our injury list is longer than Ron Jeremy's appendage and the media expect us to be competitive??

We were never beating Sydney with that team. The result doesn't change what this playing group has achieved so far this season. Let the media talk us down. I doubt 5th place would be pleased to see us at full strength week 1 of the finals if we finish 8th.

All of the media people who are saying the Dees have been "getting ahead of themselves", "drinking their own bathwater", "have a serious internal discipline problem" are same ones who last week said, they can "go all the way", "they're the real deal" etc. etc. .................They are WANKERS!!!! Giving themselves a job by making up stories. Pathetic!

Who cares what the media are saying...does it really matter? I very rarely read or watch anything to do with AFL apart from watching the games and visiting this forum. I used to watch AFL360, but not any more.

A lot of those nuff nuffs who vote various idiots into all sorts of offices. Same offices that produce lackeys to do the big people's pleasure. Its about controlling the populace.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
