Trading Brayshaw?

Hmmm, pick 18 for Gus in a heartbeat.  Really?

Gus is a pick 3 talent who is in his third year and has suffered concussion issues.  Unless his concussion issues dramatically reduce his value (and lets for the moment assume they don't) he is just as valuable now if not more so than when we drafted him.

Firstly he has demonstrated he can play good AFL football (we know all too well that early picks, even the first 3, can fail).  His first year was very impressive.  Secondly he has now got (3) preseasons under his belt, his body has matured and he's a lot closer to producing quality football than a first round draft pick. We've added significant IP and body development to him - why would we sell him for less than we paid?

Roos and Hawthorn have shown that first rounders - particularly later ones - are very overrated.  If Brayshaw is traded it won't be for a draft pick it will be for a player we want and who is more value to us than Brayshaw.  And Brayshaw's good so we are talking a quality footballer.

If his concussion issues are a significant deterrent to others the selling price won't compensate us and he'll stay.  I like him but if he was part of a trade that got us closer to a flag I'd deal.  It has to be someone of Whitfield or Kelly's ilk, anything less is just nonsense.

Agreed. Players with the talent gus has are rare and we aren't going to be offered enough for it to be worth it. I'm backing him in to play 200 plus games for the dees

No one is untradeable  but Gus has something special if he can get on the park for a decent run. I would hate to see him traded. There is something special about a list of talent that you grow yourself.

Gus, Trac, Salem, hoges, hunt form the nucleus of that group we have built here through the hard times. I'd prefer to keep them together to do something special. These boys will surely play hard for each other and the club.

I was just about to type the same thing. Saying "never" is just too small minded and lacks vision. However, Gus is my favourite current Dees player and his best footy is breath-taking. Once he is through his health/concussion issues he will tear this competition apart. And he is part of our own young rat pack who are emerging at the same time - hate to see it pulled apart.

It would have to be an incredible Fyfe/Ablett/Buddy kind of trade to be considered, otherwise we lose too much.

I'm actually seeing a lot of parallels to Brayshaw with Salem. Salem had some very promising games early in his career including the clutch goal vs Essendon but then got injuries and external medical issues that were proving difficult for him and the club to manage.

But we got there and now he's proving to be a very valuable player off half back and all the difficulties he endured are paying dividends. There were even calls on here to use him as trade bait.

Brayshaw is going through a difficult period in his life, we've supported him this far and as someone else said to put him up as trade bait will only put further pressure on the bloke.

We were patient with Salem, let's be patient with Gus.

I am thinking more of a parallel with Nev Jetta and his early concussions.  I think many thought that he was done and dusted  but patience, persistence, belief (self and club NB Roos) and hard work now sees him as an essential part of our team.

Hope Gus follows a similar trajectory.

Hawthorn have demonstrated the danger in paying big for a player who can't get on the park.

If Gus can't get past these concussions (god forbid), then we'll just trade him for hawthorns best 2 players at the time. They should be happy enough with that...

Maybe we should have traded Gawn after his 2 knee reco's

Or Hogan after his back issues

Jones has a dodgy quad, move him on...

Judd had each shoulder reconstructed before he was even drafted, give the kid a crack

He has the trade value of a second hand marital aid and more mental issues than his obnoxious uncle .

Having said that my preference would be to nurse him back to health at the club and hope we can get some sort of career for him ,if that is what he wIshes.

To have permanent brain damage is synonymous with being a part of the MFC.

On that we must all agree, based on textual evidence and deduction.

"Tell him he's dreamin"

Brayshaws a jet and we've invested too much into him now to let go of him for a lower price (draft pick) than we paid for him after an unfortunate year and a half.

He has so much potential.

I'm trusting the club (even though I think they went too early with him last time) to wait until he's absolutely ready and rehabilitated and 'trained' to avoid the head issues of his past and start playing some consistent footy.

He's a BIG part of our future in my opinion.

In terms of business Brayshaw is a low sell right now. Not ready to be considered

We need to get him right for at least another season. If there are any more concussion issues he won't be tradeable, but that is a risk i think the MFC should take.

This.... this in CAPS actually

I love this kid. Yeah he has had his melon bashed around a bit, sure, but if you look at each incident one by one you see that half were just bloody bad luck. The only problem he has now is his (probable) lack of confidence to put his head over the pill. Until his 3rd concussion (i think ) he was crazy-brave in his attack on the ball and opponent. This is exactly the skill we have been prioritising in our draftees and trade for a few years now. Once he is finally good to go, i am very confident his presence will make us a better team.

Please dont give up on Angus yet MFC.

(ofc all bets are off if he requests a trade, but i dont see any reason for him to do so)

I wasnt gonna like this post, simply for the fact that it entertained a trade. OFC it cant be argued that if we DID trade for something that got us closer to a flag, then we would really be mad not to. Problem is, even if we swapped Angus for Dusty, we couldnt be sure we were actually any closer at the time. Every trade has its risks, and in this case i prefer to risk Brayshaw being a bust as the chances are so small..... If we were offered a swap with Martin i would HAVE to think about it though. (Never gonna happen, but it does make you think)

Nev Jetta had a lot of concussion issues and seems to have overcome them.

And he crashes as much as the best of them!

I was reading an article about concussions which suggested younger people were generally more susceptible. Hoping as he matures it becomes less of an issue.

Time will tell though.

could you post a link, i'd like to read please, cheers

Brayshaw might be a great player then again he might not we just don't know, I can recall similar discussions about Trengove a few years back when the Richmond trade was mooted now he is effectively worthless trade wise.

What we do need is a lock down defender and more silk, if the right trade could be done why not, one thing we have exess of is inside mids

Interesting case here. Let me firstly say I'm a Gus fan. His currency is down, and we probably get 50c to the dollar on the trade table this year which is below what we would need to replace like for like. If he gets back I honestly believe he will be a solid player for us, and a ready made replacement for Nathan Jones in 2-3 years time.

I think the concern from a list management view is that he gets one more knock it could be curtains. Selling now means salvaging 50c to the dollar Vs nothing.

My preference is to hold, I still believe he is a blue chip stock.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
