POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 5

Hogan was a statue tonight. Does he ever lead? Arguably the worst three goal game ever.

Edited by america de cali

How many times were we hard up against the boundary and tried to wrap a kick around the body, only to kick it out on the full? At least 4 or 5 times from memory.

More experienced players just get tackled over, take the throw in and reset. Hopefully it comes.

16 would have to be your age im guessing.

mfc has so many supporters who cant see the forest for the trees. We will probably play finals next year, but you can forget this season as we just dont have the cattle yet.Or the heart. Heart matters much more than talent.

Bulldogs proved this last year, far more injuries than us but still able to win games.

Look, I agree. But to be harsh on him, he put himself in that position by diving at the ball with that hip and shoulder to the Tiger player. If that is how he initially got injured. He's a ruckman, he does not need to dive in. We are an aggressive team, but that is just reckless given his limitations. I stand corrected if he got injured later on in the game after he came back on, but that is what I saw.

So really, you're making a presumption, and otherwise talking rubbish. Genius stuff.

Hatd fact to swallow

Maybe Richmond ARE better than us !!

A ruckman diving into a contest like a midfielder when he's realistically our sole ruckmen after losing Gawn, is just careless. He can play with some element of self preservation and still make just as much an impact, just don't dive down into an oncoming player, simple. I don't think it was a matter of bad luck that he got injured, he put his shoulder down into the impact of that contest.

Couldn't agree more. Gawn, our most important player who was in doubt the week earlier with back spasms, was [censored] stupid to try and mow down Selwood. It's not his job. You're there to ruck, and the next best ruckman we have is absolutely useless, so leave the pressure acts to midfielders and you just worry about crashing into your opponent, digging the knees into the opposition in marking contests etc.

Same with Spencer tonight. Absolutely pointless. There had to be an element of self preservation to his football for the next 3 months.

Prediction:We will beat Richmond in the 1st Elimination Final

It is possible to win with two down but the nature of our injuries was terminal to our structure. Basically went from a 3 tall forward line to one and petracca was on one leg. Just unable to capitalise on forward entries without the targets and not enough rotations to match them in the last.

Feel like the season is slipping away but not because we are a bad team playing bad football. Footy gods haven't been with us at all this year.

Exactly my view. We've crossed the Gods somewhere.

Heart beating true but now you know I wish it would rain down....

Failed to adjust... Thats the coach

That's about 3 [censored] weak comments you've made. You should be better than that.

Merged Petracca thread with Post Match Discussion.  Don't need a new thread for every thought that goes through our head, people.

You must be new here.

Do we have our first round draft pick this year it will be a top 4 pick, no chance to win a game on the next 10 weeks with the lack of leadership and injuries we have

This is why posting straight after a frustrating loss isn't advised.

Proud of the players. Couldn't have asked much more in terms of effort.

We have been making excuses for losing for a living for 53 years HB. Good teams find a way to finish, even under adversity.

We are just not a good side yet, hell I can't remember the last time we won 3 in a row. We will be though, I have seen better patches of footy from us this year than any time in the last 5.

Riewoldt.

Gotta find the off switch when next we play.

Bring back Chip Frawley. He always had Riewoldt's measure.

Arguably the most over-hyped "$1m a year" player ever. Always wants the one over the back where he can just lean into his opponent and protect the drop. Very few strings to his bow.

Q4 Garlett streaming toward the pocket and he wants it over the back? Get on your bike and lead at the kicker Jesse! Garlett is not kicking it 60m in the 4th when we've been 2-3 players short all night!

It's just a good thing that you don't pot the posts of others.

You could be right. Backline is better than ours. Mids are at least as good as ours. Forward line maybe not as flexible as ours but not far behind.

One positive so far this season is that we appear to be removing effort as a major determining factor on results. There has been less white flag raising than previous years. There were a few pretty soft individual efforts tonight (which I feel confident will be addressed under this regime) but these are now more an exception than a rule...

His delivery is terrible. Give the bloke a chance to jump at it.

In saying that, i hate how he looks for the free kicks

We happened to do that last year.  Nice memory skills.

I have posted this on another thread ...absolutely gutted...but will not criticise or slander any player ...quite simply cruelled  by injuries....lost in the last few minutes...cannot believe that any supporter tries to justify the loss by critiquing individual players ...two key players down before halftime time ..petracca & jones on one leg...everyone take a bloody  chill pill ....longest injury list in AFl...should be proud ...heading in right direction!!!!

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
