GAME DAY - Round 1, 2017

Featured Replies

New year, same crap when we play the Saints.

Same old.

The more things change , the more they remain the same.

We're struggling, and it's down in part to the pressure the Saints are applying and how they are setting up so well behind the ball.  Their spare man is picking everything off.

Our midfield needs to lift as well.  Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Salem etc. are not giving us much right now and it's hurting.  Weideman has coughed up a few chances and, as so many have mentioned, our backline, in particular Oscar Mac, are struggling big time.

There is a long way to go though, and we're lucky to only by 23 points down at quarter time.

I reckon we get better from here as it's the only place we can go.

Sigh.

Terrible by the Milkman.

This is laughable. All optimism sucked dry in one quarter of football.

We crumble under pressure and nothing has changed.

Very dissapointing.

This is gross, our two best key backs are probably the two most unskillful players in the comp. won't win a flag with that being the case

We will be bottom of the ladder after this round

Sounds like we've again learned nothing from how the Saints beat us last year.

Awesome start boys.

FMD.

Some things never change.

And yet we still don't man up the extra in defence

We look like we have been sucking down ether compared to the sainters.

absolute poor, why do we let them have a spare man in defense, our extra man around the ball or where ever he is, is giving us nothing so damn well man up

Saints run and pressure is far superior to ours. Saints are playing much better but the umpires are hurting us as well. We look like a rabble.

Smith was looking really good, moving well. Those McDonald lads haven't had a great start. Our skills across the board have been terrible.

To anyone who still thinks we have "plenty" or "enough" of those inside mid "types" think again.

It would be nice to win some center clearances and more contested possession. Saint kill us time and time again in the engine room. The defense can't keep up.

10 goal loss by the look of it. Extremely dysfunctional around the ground and off the bench. Players running off then told to go back on. Happened maybe 10 times. Fumbles. Can't react fast enough to pressure. Forwards are flat footed. Backs are fumbling.

Umps [censored] us over as usual

I wonder if we'll do anything to counter the spare man back this time. Seems to always cause a mind explosion in a Melbourne coaches box.

Only upside from here. Need as if lift from our mids

Brain fades all over the ground. saints showing what happens when you apply manic pressure to a young team. Hannan way out of his depth, as us Weed, and Oscar

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
