2nd question..

Again what has Garry Lyon done?

Probably more than us Dazzle. ;)

Herald sun running with story that Joel smith might make his debut, I guess we will know today sometime as he would need to be elevated to senior list

As all of you know , I do not make outrageous statements but I'll say this..

If Watts does not play thats Goodwins first mistake that could cost us the game. He is worth 3 goals and a couple of dish of's so I hope all this bulltish about benchmarks and KPI gets put where it belongs !! In the wastepaper basket and Jackie boy is named as a key forward.!

I'm getting very excited about the team getting announced.

Surely watts plays. His foot skills are desperately needed for this game

Agree. He's in our best 10 let alone 22. Not sure if it'll mean that big of deal if he plays round 2. I suspect that if he was left out it'd be about a punishment more than a form thing. Even Hodge isn't playing round 1 due to calling the club a few hours too late about missing a training session.

frightening really.

yet they'll no doubt say it's perfectly fine, nothing to see.

scary for the players.

They should arrange for someone independent to inspect the condition of the ground and comment on it's condition.  The players association should arrange it.  Then if someone gets injured as a result of the turf shifting they can claim it was an unsafe workplace.  Until then the AFL will continue to push the line that the ground is fine, regardless of the injuries.

I'd be furious if we lost Hogan or Gawn with a knee due to a dodgy surface.

I'd have to question Goodwin's priorities about winning this game if he selects Weideman and leaves out Watts.

Weideman will struggle to get 4 touches, 2 marks and a Joe the Goose goal if he's lucky.... nowhere near enough for a key forward and basically a liability, which is what he was in the last 2 games of last year and the West Coast JLT game. He'll be a great player from 2019 onwards, but he's nowhere near ready.

Watts will give us at least 15 effective disposals. 1-2 goals and a frustrating head in hand moment. He must play.

How you could even contemplate leaving our most skillful player Watts out and having Weideman , Spencer or Pederson in his place is beyond me.

Lets face it, we can't live without these. It makes Melbourne fun! :P

Tyson looked like a young Pendlebury when he came to the club a few years ago but he hasn't really progressed. His decision making is quite poor, I have him in the best 20 to 30, no lock for best 22.

The bloke's finished 2nd and 4th in the BnF in his two injury unaffected years at the club. He may never become an A-grader but there's no doubt he's clearly best 22.

Usually agree with the majority of your posts Clint but that's an odd one.

He has been here for 3 yearsEdit: Just realised you said injury unaffected
I agree on principle. I dont think he plays like him but he gets rated like Priddis. Tyson consistantly does enough, but rarely blows anyone away. I dont think he will ever be our best mid either but he is a good player. He has also shown the ability to kick goals which not many of our mids do.

THe clubs should also ask the AFL for a written guarantee that the turf won't shift and is safe.

Not comparing Watts and Weid. But i feel that even if Watts kicks 1-2 goals he costs us 3 goals the other way due to lack of pressure, soft tackling efforts, or soft contested efforts.

Probably sets up 3 goals too... And I would say if anyone is going to cost us 3 goals it would be Oscar.

I think that takes away all doubt you are a fanatic Steve.

See in my opinion, I believe that the Oscar is not our defensive problem. It starts further up the ground. Between the high raking kicks into our fifty to no ones advantage, than the oppositions half back strolling out of our forward line and through the middle of the ground. It is hard to defend the opponents forwards when there is no pressure up the field.

Shouldn't that be SEA DA?

Yeah why should we have high standards for Watts and want him to push himself to become A grade?! He is talented so he should just play no matter what

It worked for Silvia

Dazzle, I interpreted it as a reference to Lyon leaving us out of his top 8 forecast.  Contrasts with Ox who has us 4th.

Can't say I was the same a few years ago mate.

I'm sure the AFL has legal obligations to provide a safe workplace and accordingly hope they undertake due diligence via inspection by expert before sanctioning to use the venue to cover their backsides. I also hope they are contingency planning, but I think they'd need to call it (a change in venue) today/tomorrow am latest and can't see this happening with timing of other games planned at the G.

I also hope they are using the right dirt glue (earlier post still tickling my funny bone)
