Maybe on potential but definitely not based on anything he has produced at AFL level this far.

For a fellow who has Watts in his name, I thought patience would come second nature to you.

In 2015, coming 11th in the Bluey as a 19 yo first year player doesn't show anything at AFL level?

Some people are hard to please!!

There is a difference between what you are saying and what I said.

I responded to a comment saying an in form Brayshaw is in our top 10 players. He showed a lot of potential in his first season but has never been the same player since the West Coast game in that season.

BUMP

He's back playing Casey this weekend! Good luck Gussie,  let's hope you are playing seniors before the season ends!

Great to hear!. Obviously you wish him well and can play the match unscathed, he would need at least a month to find any sort of form.

Would be great to see him push for selection before seasons end. Would be a fairytale end to the year if he got to play finals footy!

That would be huge for the club especially before final. Any news on training today did I hear Salem pushing 4 selection?

Start him the forward pocket to hopefully kick a couple of snags.

The kid needs confidence and it doesn't come any faster that when you get on the end of a couple early in a game.

I would be very happy if he just makes it through the rest of the Casey season unscathed.

I would be orgasmic if he got through unscathed and was pushing for seniors recall.

Play him in the back pocket and let him see everything in front of him while sweeping up easy touches.

Great to see the coaches sorting out his technique:  "Brayshaw was predisposed to leading with his head and they have been trying to alter his approach to ensure he leads more with his body to absorb the contact coming his way". http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-18/demon-angus-brayshaw-to-return-in-vfl-after-concussions

At times Gus has been too brave for his own good and getting his technique sorted would give him a lot more confidence and most importantly keep him safe.

We have had very few games where Gus (out for a lot of 2016 and 2017), Petracca (out all of 2015), Salem (out for most of 2016), Hunt and Hogan (out most of 2017) have been on the park at the same time. 5 or 6 games maybe, in nearly 3 years?

How awesome to see all those young guys fully fit in the same game.  A real treat coming our way at the G later this year .

That's huge news- this kid is a real weapon!  Would love to see him crack the seniors for the last couple of rounds, then... who knows..??

Just the thought of this makes me squirm with discomfort. I'd be far more relaxed if he was returning through the seniors where he's not subject to some VFL voodoo curse.

On another note, anyone know if Gus will be sporting some shiny new head-gear?

This is real tent-in-the- Fletcher-Jones stuff.  I hope Brayshaw will be the 'recruit of 2018' - He would need to do something special to get on the AFL park in the next 5 weeks.  We are really building something, and we have had a tough (and stupid, with the suspensions) 2017.  Looking up by the day.

Tony this makes a lot of sense, playing in the last line means he can see what's going on and build some confidence and form. Let's face it he has been taken out several times by players coming in from behind him and taking a cheap shot unwittingly or not. It is about getting him back playing with confidence at this stage.

Yes he will according to the report I heard on SEN

The last time he played they put him in defence. Back flank by memory.

Whilst he probably won't be 'match fit' just yet, his body should be pretty fresh compared to many players this time of year, so hopefully that helps.  We could certainly use a player with his talent and physic in the run home.

Good luck to him in his comeback, just take it step by step. Would be great to see him back later this year but realistically I just want to see him string games together and gain confidence in himself.

We also haven't played in September for a decade. It might actually come together for us this year.

He just needs some luck. Once he strings together many games in a row and gets confidence back he will be fine.  Dont expect him to play AFL this season though, that wont happen.

Such an important player to get up and running,  especially with Lewis and Vince close to the end, and Jonesy approaching 30.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
