Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melksham was fine for a guy having his first serious hit out for a while, didn't do too much wrong

Stretch continues to develop nicely, did some good and bad like most of the others

Salem's first hit out in midfield, more please

Hate to say it but the one player who has begun to believe the publicity was Hunt, tried too much a few time, the Doggies had watched the tapes

Jeff Garlett will be ther Rd 1

Saty, nice to read a post from you that is not all sunshine and roses.

Well done, even though I put Hunts game tonight down to first game rust, not bloaty head.

Pretty impressed with Jones's game today seemed to have a bit of freedom to make effective inside 50s and got straight up after a heavy knock....so did our other Captain as well. All in all very even display on a pr%%k of a ground.

Goody's presser revealed that Wagner dislocated his fibula. Apparently it went straight back in, but remains a bit sore. Never known of that injury before...

We went to pieces mentally in the last five minutes of the second and fourth quarters - I think greater concentration and drilling in what's expected from the senior players will help.

From what I saw, the fringe players will struggle to get in due to the greater depth in our side's make-up.

Spencer, Smith look likely candidates to be best 22 in our side come round 1 - the waxing and waning btw Spencer and Gawn was exciting to watch, just like at the Cats game a couple of years back. Smith just looks all class coming off half-back, but I guess at the moment it's between him and Hibberd, and for mine Hibberd wins?

Interesting with Melksham, he essentially played the 'small defender' role. For mine, Jetta is a walk up start for that gig come Round 1.

JKH and ANB were okay, but nothing amazing. They played their roles but didn't strike me as pushing towards the best side.

Lewis, Jones and Vince swapping between half-back, wing, and inside mid was really good to see. Jones on the outside was arguably the most threatening of the three for mine, but Lewis and Vince were good too.

Some don't like him, but vandenBerg is a monty to be in there come Round 1 for mine. His attack on the ball and the man is really great to watch.

Only issues for mine was how easily T Mac got lead up the ground by Cloke and that Wagner got injured, and his loss definitely hurt our structural set-up.

Looking forward to the next hit-out.

We used to go to pieces for the entire 2nd half!!

DC. Saty's criticism of Hunt was a profound moment for Demonland. Please don't call him out on it.

Wasn't criticism, an observation, I want him to take the game on, just think he overdid it today at the wrong moments

He also had a couple of good involvements.

Review and go again

As for Tommy Mc, just Tommy Mc, really good defending with the usual couple of lookaway moments

Melksham ran out of petrol towards the end, not surprised

I thought Brayshaw was good,

Would be interesting to see how many interchanges there were

I never do sunshine and roses, I just don't bag players.

I make observations, thought maybe Hunt 'tried too hard' a couple of times

There was another instance where Viney 'slung' a player in a tackle, that nobody has mentioned, an observation 'he has to be careful with type of tackle'  over enthusiasm

Otherwise known as a critical observation. It's okay Saty, it's allowed. And it doesn't mean a single thing more than you think Hunt overdid it on occasion.

Agreed. He's one of my favorite players but he wasn't poor today. I find it odd that people are laying into Melksham, who was playing his first game in 500 days or so and said nothing about Hunt. Melksham wasn't great, but he showed enough in his first hit out to show why we chased him and that with more game time getting back up to speed he is a lock for the 22 and an important cog to our drive.

Hunt needs to learn not to try to do too much and remember that's he's a defender also. He cost us a few goals today running too far forward and completely misreading the play. Hopefully he learns from it and doesn't become too much of a front runner. His defensive efforts were outstanding last year and he needs to keep that up.

He got caught a lot in the intra-club hit-out last Friday as well. A wee bit of hubris which might need straightening out perhaps?

Totally agree about Spencer and Gawn. We look a lot better and balanced side with Spencer there. It is interesting that with the commentators waking up about Demon potential they can now see what a menace Max will be as a resting forward. Bring it on I say - and Spencil is a very under-rated ruckman which a number of  sides will come to learn in this current season.

I was critical of him in the intra club and yes, some very slight straightening might be required. I can understand it when the coaches are telling them all to get it into his hands, but he needs to know his limitations. When he plays to them he is a good player. Some of his best involvements today were spoils or intercepts with his high leap - it doesnt necessarily have to be all run n gun.

Also, he still can't kick that well. At the moment he is a poor man's JJ i reckon.

Are we really going to play two rucks in the real season?

Or was Spencer only in the game so we could keep Gawn away from getting injured before the season starts?

We were very fumbly with our hands.  Jones' was the worst, directly gifting his man a goal, but there were many instances where the players didn't take the ball cleannly.  It's something we've had trouble with in the past, and I really hope it's just rust and will be quickly polished off.

The standard was high mostly.  Very intense and hard at the stoppages.  We have one of the best extraction units in the league and the Doggies have built their side around contested ball, so it was always going to be a battle.  The fact that we beat them in all but one category in the key stats says we're doing something right.

I'm a little surprised by the lack of love for Garlett today.  He did a great job early on creating goals for us.  I question the AFL site saying he had three assists as I had him with four to halftime.  Maybe I mistook JKH for him?  Except he didn't get credit for any. Who knows.  Regardless, I thought he was selfless and creative and turned half chances into certainties with his vision and passing.  Probably needs to do more defensively, but in terms of scoreboard impact he was as good as any.

Looked good with both out there, Max is a bonus up forward, think that was the plan all along, its why Spencer got a new contract last year

Melksham was always a pretty middle tier recruit anyway so I think he will need to blow out some cobwebs.

Ill have a look at the highlights when I get the chance but I think any pre-season comp you start with beating the premiers is a good start to the year. Let's keep building.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
