Let's assume for a moment I'm not a complete idiot.

Perhaps take off your Dawes Blinkers and go back and read my last post and see if you can work out what I was actually saying!

Never thought you were an idiot!

All I am saying is the amount a player is paid always counts when deciding on his worth.

I don't care if it is Dawes or anyone else

That's exactly what I'm saying, so I'm not sure why we're having a debate.

The discussion you jumped in on was my response to another comment about 'spending the money better'. That's fine in principle but is based on waffle with no concrete analysis of the alternatives.

That may be the case, but a bit of rigour in the analysis wouldn't go astray, rather than just 'I don't want to pay Chris Dawes because the money is better spent elsewhere'.

Ok so if I misunderstood you I apologise.

My understanding of the comment "because the money is better spent elsewhere'." is the implied situation which I think is my opinion is that Chris Dawes is not giving us much as a player and the money we pay him could be better spent on someone who will give us more as a player.

This is what I'm talking about. What resources? You're making definitive statements with absolutely zero context.

Not capable of thought ?

Resources...what ever the club bring to bear to maintain and further a players development and /or health/fitness

its not really that hard to fathom...even for a non-complete idiot

Youre the one evading the obvious context as it doesnt suit your stance

Who would be in favour of Dawes staying with the Dees in an on field capacity and who is in favour of Dawes staying in an off field capacity. Or not at all and why?

TBH I have no idea as to how good or otherwise he may be to the club solely in an off field scenario. If the club thought YES, then fine.

I would argue his ON FIELD capacity has been exhausted

Your wallet ?

Not my wallet or the clubs that's the whole point of performance based. If the player isn't getting games and not performing he gets paid less.

Surely the real endeavor of a club is to find and filed players that do actually add to the equation, not someone you can pay less for because of underperformance ?

Of course, but we have turned over a lot of our list in the past 3 Roos years and this year I think with not many draft picks it would be good to sign these sorts of players for a 1 year contract while still turning over 4-6 spots for players with more upside that our resources can be spent on.

A thought about the utilisation of players of Dawes' ilk often somewhere in and amongst the arguments incorporates a mentoring  role with a view to stepping into coaching.

Chris has a line of pursuit already with law so the after-footy role would probably carry little weight if looking to make use of Chris beyond the field.

I do agree that the cleaning of the closet isnt quite so cut and dried as per previous seasons

anyway, getting back on topic, if any other club wants him they can have him. might even get a usable draft pick

if they don't then i can see him getting delisted

That is what an interested club wants so they can get him as a DFA for nothing (ie no trade).

Ditto for other players who are OOC and not in line for another contract.  Interested clubs will just sit back and wait.

A by-product of the FA rules.

on what

timing of delisting (i.e. before trade period or after), whether more than one club is interested, whether the club is uncertain of delisting based on how trade period goes and numbers stack up

btw i did say "might" get a trade pick

That's ok! My main beef is statements about money, and resources, and salary, being made in a vacuum.

Definitely.

But you're clearly not processing what I'm saying, so let's stop here.

I feel as though we have a few players who could generate third round draft picks that we might be able to package together to get another second rounder in this draft, particularly if we trade the one we have for Hibberd.

Just a thought.

I am still trying to recover from Sunday Wiseblood.

Not sure my brain is up to the trading possibilities this week.

Still?  I was over it by Monday morning.  Why waste time on it?

No surprise I guess but I think the ageing process is getting to me faster than I thought.

The interesting thing this year is we have got to August 23rd before serious trade and draft talk surfaced. It usually starts around May1st.

Shows how far we have come in 2016.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
