I've mentioned him a few times already, so thought I'd give him his own thread seeing as I'm on a role.

Mature age ruckman/forward has been around the WAFL scene with Claremont for a few years now (must have played with Hogan) and has had a breakout year this year.

http://www.wafl.com.au/players/view/4672

Not bad numbers for a just turned 21 year old big man.  Approx 2 goals, 6 marks, 12 possessions, 13 hit outs and 2 tackles a game.  Fits the bill of what we need.  I'd be willing to take him late in the national draft with our 4th round pick to make sure we get him rather then risk him being there in the rookie draft.  He has Callum Sinclair written all over him from a few years back.

Cameron could potentially play from Round 1 and go along way to fixing our structure issues with the forward/2nd ruck role.  Brief description on him below re: his invite to the combine this year.  Anyone seen much of him at WAFL level?

Cameron was overlooked at the 2013 NAB AFL Draft with a query on his pace and his consistency in competing. But he's improved those aspects of his game and presents as a mature-age tall who is able to play in the ruck and in attack. Cameron has enjoyed a solid season at WAFL level for Claremont.

A take from me at the right price 3rd roundish,  really improved by adding the goal kicking ruckman to his game after being shellshocked when not drafted first time around. Started to knuckle down mid 2015 and had a very strong year until getting injured late. Has potential to be a Rory Lobb type. Meth Coast are very keen on him

Not sure he's a country boy from Albany so obviously used to being away from home even if it is only 4hrs drive

2013...Darcy Cameron is an agile ruckman who is also a good marking target around the ground.

I would hope he can become more aggressive, for his footy's sake.

Worth consideration based on his pace & skills.  But I'd hope he gets some ruggedness into his persona to play as a big man.

If we can get Pick 47 (Eagles 3rd Round Pick is 48) off Brisbane as part of any Dunn trade, then i say we take him.

It's a moot point now Angry, as the Eagles no longer have pick 48.

True. But they have 34 and then a pick in the 50s so good for us unless they rate him enough to take at 34.

All assuming we are interested of course.

I'll laugh if he goes with the pick before us.  AAC will be even angrier.

I'll flip my lid if he goes at 46!

Exactly the type of player we require. I remain optimistic!

Well the Swans have 46 - so here is hoping they are not in the hunt - for the sake of AAC's blood pressure.

Think Meth Coast may have to use 34 on FS Jake Waterman

I like!

Although with an ageing Sandilands & Griffin I'm also a bit concerned about Freo at Pick 40.....

Freo may take English at 7?

After my rant in the Oscar McInerney thread I thought I better back it up here as well.

Does anyone want to provide any insights on why they think Cameron wasn't picked up in his draft year, even as a rookie?

From memory his work ethic was the main thing. That and the fact that not many ruckmen get drafted out of the U18's anymore.

From all reports his work ethic has improved significantly.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
