Haha selective quoting again...

What about this:

Peter Lenton, Mitchell's manager, says there was "no pushing or shoving" from Clarko...but admits Sam was "blindsided" by the proposition.

So still think Mitchell wasn't pushed. Was Lewis being pushed or was it win win for both parties again.

Matthew Boyd has re-signed with the Dogs.

Marcus Adams, after one year at the Dogs, has requested a trade back to WA.  The Dogs give him a chance and he gives them the flick after just one season.  This sort of stuff is getting out of hand.

Sam Mitchell basically traded for pick 88.

Wow.

That's what West Coast said when they handed over 88 for Cale Morton.

Contracted legend of the club and current best and fairest gone for pick 88.

Just doesn't seem right and the way Hawks/Eagles have colluded is a little fishy.

Contract backended in coaching years to avoid player salary cap?

Using your network to get stuff done isn't colluding.

With Lewis reportedly off the radar, are our sights sets maybe looking at bringing in Rockliff? I understand he has that toxicity nature surrounding him, but at the end of the day the question should be asked. Does he improve our chances of making finals next year? For me it's a yes.

Lewis has more off field indiscretions than Rockliff. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Tom Rockliff other than a few tweets that hurt a few very sensitive people. Rockliff is not only a better leader than Lewis - but he is twice the player. Does Tom Rockliff improve our chances to make the finals next year? Yes, and in a big way. Rockliff is one of the best players in the league and he does all the very hard things others dont. He would automatically be our best player and by a fair space. We should be into him in a big way.

Good I hope we hold out for next years second rounder. If not so be it but it would be good if we could either use this years second in other trade - or the draft. Still holding out hope we can land a big name this trade period.

Adams is a gun as well. If Freo land him then they are having some trade period. They still have Bennell to come back in next year. Get him right, add the others and Fyfe, they could be a smoky for the 8

I think perhaps Clarko sees Mitch as his successor. Said go learn the ropes then come back and take my place. That would explain why there's no malice

Okay then.  Elaborate on how this is "fishy" and how they've colluded outside of how any other clubs do deals.

Sounds about right to me ...we traded a legend to the Hawks for Pick 94. Mitchell just slightly ahead of the Fitzman......

I quite like the Mitchell trade. Obviously he is an all time great of the game, his record speaks for itself. You can talk about team dynamics and list profile and all of the fancy words you want to use, but this looks a great trade for wce, Hawthorn and Mitchell himself. There doesn't always have to be a winner and loser for each trade, it's just that media push for hysteria over any trade to find a loser out of it. I think Mitchell will be a terrific puck up for wce, and will have a fantastic coaching career. I think wce will get 1 perhaps 2 good years out of a player who whilst slowing down, still plays some damn good football, and Hawthorn gain salary cap relief, and the chance for Stratton, Gibson, Smith and gunston to step up as leaders. Not to mention opening the way for Mitchell and omeara to come in.

There is always a grey area when it comes to older players on the list and in my view, North Melbourne and Melbourne have previously failed, perhaps Hawthorn have set another trend here.

Really pumped to see this Gibberd guy.

Heard he was a bit of a hybrid player in the mold of Gibbs and Hibberd mixed into one player!

Feels a bit different when you're already factoring in a 2 year coaching gig as part of the contract/trade.

Eagles could say pay Mitchell 50% of his current Hawks salary for the rest of his playing days, then 150% when he is coaching = wont affect the salary cap and Mitchell gets the same $$$ by the end of his tenure there.

If that was the deal, I'd be amazed if the coaching years weren't counted in the salary cap.  It's almost identical to Fat Phil isn't it?

Yep.  Melbourne playing funny buggers on Hibberd when our second round pick would have got it done in the opening hour of trade week suggests more irons in the fire to me.

Which is what I was told was the deal. That came from a Bombers source as a done deal.

Yep, that's the context for my comments.  I don't have your sources but what you said sounded right to me.

Melbourne fans can probably hold off on the "Essendon are bastards to trade with" calls for a few years after this.  I'm not unhappy though.

My point was that we tanked and the AFL said tanking did not happen. Clubs collude all the time but will the AFL act?

How many reigning b&f winners, ex club captains, well respected and admired players with years left playing at the top level get traded for pick 88?

Jack Fitzpatrick was delisted but we gained pick 94 for him, not used, sound equivalent to pick 88.

So? For whatever reason, which can only be salary cap related, Hawthorn needed to offload him.  For the same reasons I outlined earlier in the Lewis thread, when I said Melbourne would not sell the farm for a short term prospect, this counts doubly so for Mitchell who will only play there for one year before moving in to coaching.  It's the right price for a one year player, no matter how good.

Looks like from all reports, we have changed the deal slightly unless the 2016 pick was not specifically articulated.

I was told 2nd round pick. I assumed this years' pick.

We might have another deal in the pipeline and are tinkering with the Hibberd deal.

Anyway it will be done as Bombers need it done.

Exactly my thoughts too.  Interesting times.  I love trade week(s).

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
