Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Poor Nicky Dal.  They should erect a statue of him outside Arden Street.

It could actually have another effect, suggesting to our second level mids, that we have no faith in them.

Guys like ANB, JKH and Ben K should be told they need to step up and we will play them. Guys like Hunt, Salem, Kent, Billy and VDB should be given some time in the middle to try them out.

It is harder to do if you bring in a NDS for one year.

On the other hand, key forwards would love to see a NDS heading for them, with the ball in hand.

That's why communication is vital and was clearly one of Roos' strengths. You make sure the second tier mids understand why these guys are coming in to compete for their spot. It's an experience thing and it's something they simply can't compete with.

Ok I will be the devils advocate, we get Dal Santo and we want him to play a year, using the vernacular used on here, whose spot does he take

Midfield 3 or them were in top five of B&F, Oliver, Petracca, Trengove, BenKen, Bugg, Kent, Harmes, ANB

Half back, Salem, Hibberd, Melksham, Hunt, Wagner, Lumumba, Vince, Jones

I can't see a place for him

I'd have him ahead of Bugg, Trengove, Kennedy, ANB and probably Harmes to be honest. He can hit a target. Bugg, Harmes and even Kennedy aren't great in this area. For list balance sake, I'm sure we'll be able to find a place for him.

Dick jokes aside for a minute,  Dal Santo is on the slide and is declining. If we need experience why don't we look for a trade for a 27/28yo leader and find a piece we can get to assist for another 3 seasons?

One season isn't worth it.

There is no comparison. You've just stated the facts of the matter... when Harmes has had a similar career, then you could logically defend him.

He was comparing, well actually denigrating, we all know Harmes is not Dal Santo at this stage, but who knows what he may develop into..................I'm with this guy

This is what I was suggesting in my earlier posts but was pretty quickly shot down. Apparently, there's an inherent belief that if a player is over 30, they automatically add leadership values to a side.

I definitely agree that in our position, a player around that age mark would be far more beneficial. In saying that, I think across the board, the AFL landscape is bereft of available players who fit this category in the coming trade season. Unless, one were to look at an established player in the state leagues, but we've been down that path before and all know how that turned out.

James Magner, take a stand!

The problem is that leaders in the late 20s bracket don't just fall in to your lap for a pittance.  We will need to give up something decent to bring a player like that in to the club - Hartlett is one example.  He has had an average two years but is a vice captain and has clear leadership qualities - the problem is that Port will want, at a minimum, a late first round pick for him.  We simply don't have that sort of currency, which is why we are discussing these older types as filling a few gaps as our kids grow into their roles.

That's the issue though, if we get Dal Santo for a year, he could put a kid back a year by occupying his spot, or if the kid overtakes him then Sal Santo ends up like Dawes, leadership sitting at Casey

I think people forget how consistent and durable this bloke has been for the last 15 years.  I watched him closely on Saturday - he's lost a yard, and we do need leg speed but he's still brilliant at finding the footy and generally makes the right decisions.  The only older players that we have that are guaranteed a game at the moment are Vince and Jones - and we need some strong, experienced players.  The reason that the Saints are a step ahead of us is because their older players (Riewoldt, Fisher, Dempster, Montagna, Armitage, Steven) are much better players than our experienced core.  I think Dal has another two years in him and I think he's worth having to help drive us forward.  He's rarely injured and is consistent.  Scott Thompson on the other hand is just about shot...been a great player but I've noticed this year that his impact on games is minimal.

If either happens then it's not really a big problem.  If a kid were to overtake him then that's terrific, but they can also be learning the trade at Casey with Dal providing good leadership.  Can't hurt for a year.

You could say the same thing about retaining M.Jones. At least Dal Santo still has an impact at AFL level. And if all our kids can perform consistently at AFL level to overtake Dal Santo, we'll be pushing for a top 4 spot. We should be past the stage of gifting kids games if they don't perform week in week out.

I am not sure if we need to import a mature player on a one year deal at this point in our develooment. Getting Daniel Cross was a work of genius. His work ethic and dependability have instilled a lot of good qualities in our younger players. Surely though, these qualities are strong enough in our leadership group now that a 1 year contract for Del Santo isn't a matter of urgency.

Given that, he is a beautiful kick, reads the play early (that is why it looks like he is an outside player) and has excellent leadership qualities. Maybe it is the assistant coaching angle that Goodwin sees as necessary.

Must agree that Crossy was a great move, and boy did he give his all. Nick Dal would be a great asset if he stays fit and his heart is still in it, and I would much rather him to Boomer. Although no question Boomer is a champ with plenty still to give, honestly I always found him to be a bit of a ball hog, thoughts???

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
