Terry said he was going to look into it as there'd been a lot of talk about it over the weekend.

He knew about the rumours, but wasn't sure where it was coming from.

Our coaching group is now second to none and I have faith he could be successfully implemented into our gameplan and be more damaging than he has been recently at Brisbane.

Lewis, Hibberd and Rockliff would be nothing short of incredible for a club that now rates going through the draft and had so little to offer up for trades.

I fully suppirt the strategy, because we have the best group of young players already stockpiled in the league.  If it all comes off the sky is the limit in 2017.

I was reflecting on this PD when I woke up this morning. Peter Jackson and Paul Roos need to be remembered here for how solid we are in our first trading period since Roos' departure. If the transition wasn't 100% managed, we'd be seeing some level of discontentment and players wanting out. But not a single player wants to leave (yes we're shopping Dunn to BNE, but I'm not counting that as player driven). I think this fact alone makes us a destination club, and I can't wait to see the improvements to standards we get with the touted inclusions. Job well done, PJ and PR.

Rockliff is outspoken with a poor filter, but he means well.  He challenges coaches and his fellow players.  A change of scenery to a club with a developing culture is probably in order.  I have faith in Goodwin, McCartney and the other coaching group to have him pushing in the right direction.

I rate Rockliff's ability to play midfield and forward.  Our coaching group is now second to none and I have faith he could be successfully implemented into our gameplan and be more damaging than he has been recently at Brisbane.

Love what the club is doing but GWS probably have us covered on that one.

Fairly sure Sydney, Hawthorn and the Doggies (at least) have us covered for best coaching group at this stage too seeing Goody hasn't even coached a game yet.

Spot on ProDee.

Rockcliff is an imposing midfielder who always looks strong and assured entering the forward 50 and also when competing for the ball in the forward 50.

I remember him taking a mark against us at the G a few years ago when the game was in the balance, and he just owned the situation. He took the mark with complete authority, and then calmly and assuredly slotted the ensuing set shot. I remember thinking at the time - geez, I wish he played for us.

Hibberd, Lewis, Rockcliff, all of our required players having agreed to extensions, and Taylor's ability to find good players deep in the draft - this would be a simply amazing outcome in the circumstances if it comes off.

I remember him looking very good against us in rd 1 2012. We were supposed to be pumped up after losing Jimmy on the eve of the season.

The contest was close enough for a half, then Lions torched us in the third.  Rockliff took 10 grabs, including lots of one on one contested grabs in the F50.  he kicked 3.5, but some if his misses were relatively easy shots.  He should have had 6 or so.

There's no doubt they'd stake a claim and I usually preface my comments about our young group by excluding GWS, but I'm pretty comfortable where we sit against them.

Gawn is better than any under 25 ruck they have.

Hogan is at least the equivalent of Cameron as a key forward.  Cameron kicks more goals, but I prefer Hogan's forward play.  Lobb is a gun.  I see no reason Weideman won't become the equal of Patton on what I've seen.

The two McDonalds will be very good key defenders for a long time.  Losing Marchbank won't help them.

Oliver, Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw, Salem, Stretch, Hunt, Kent, and Petracca measure up against Shiel, Coniglio, Scully, Greene, Kelly, Whitfield, Smith, Williams, Wilson, and Haynes.

And a little birdy tells me that internally they rate Joel Smith the equal of Hunt, so watch this space in 2017. ;)

I wouldn't spend time arguing the point, but I see our young group very much the equal of GWS.

Amazing that we have a better list than GWS and the best coaching group in the comp but only finished 11th... The "we're flying"/"training the house down" stuff has started a bit earlier than normal this year. Must be the Lewis factor...

Hahaha.. so true.

GWS probably a goal away from a flag...

Dees can't qualify for finals!!

i must say though, I think the few senior additions (if made) this trade period will make a huge difference to the club.

would be much more confident of cracking finals with a more balanced team.

It will be much harder to crack a game with the fringe players (m.jones, stretch, bugg, vanders etc) likely to see some serious VFL time

Are you this disingenuous on purpose? Not one person said that we have a better list than GWS right now. The context of this discussion is around the quality of the youth on the list.

Ok, so "amazing that we have a better young list...."

It's still a pretty outrageous comment.

We are a still a few years behind but we definitely have one of the best placed lists to impact the potential GWS dynasty

Matt Jones might have trouble finding a game at Casey considering he was delisted.

I think Hawthorn may have well and truly put the final nail in the dynasty coffin.

I can't see players playing for unders just to keep the band together anymore...

GWS will be raided harder and will lose some of their A grade talent, unfortunately we will have the same problem.

I think it might be one flag and then show me the money from now on.

A lot of talk now about Rockliff going to Hawks?

Has this been the plan all along?

Interesting week ahead

Instead of JOM or in addition to?

The rumour has seemingly been started by the bombers suggesting O'meara will go to them in the pre season draft instead of to the Hawks, i think it's rubbish personally.

I feel it's O'Meara or bust for the Hawks. They've gone too far down that path already.

If the Rockliff deal comes to fruition, gaining Hibberd, Lewis & him in 1 trade period should compare very favorably with GWS' recruiting of Heath Shaw, Mummy & Stevie J.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
