Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I like Kent but don't forget boomer still receives a higher quality defender or tag more frequently

I think most peoples hate for him stems from him ripping us a new one every time we played NM.

Those opposed to getting him, what harm would it do?  Do you really think getting Harvey would make us take a step backwards?

I have read most opposed think he is not a leader, if that is the case then people will not follow his selfish on field habits will they?  They will follow the role models they have been following.  Why all of a sudden would they start playing selfishly just because he has joined the team?  I just do not understand this logic.

It takes a space on our list away from someone we could develop, possibly for the next decade. Harvey doesn't add leadership, he's doesn't add anything to the list or fill any holes, and he's 38 years old FCS.

We are not that desperate.

This really is a agree to disagree topic.

Doesn't fill any holes?  Which Melbourne midfield have you been watching?  We've got two players in the side with pace (Hunt & Garlett) and neither of them play in the midfield where games are won and lost.  Boomer as a high half forward / wingman definitely fills a hole.

Maurie for mine if you look at the Dawks you can see it is much easier to let other develop a player and then look to bring them in ready made. I've said it a few times but if one of our young blokes can't get a game before someone like Harvey they won't win us a game either. hopefully it pushes them to work harder to get in front of him. Not saying I could stomach him in red and blue but if he helps us win 2-3 more games next year... bingo!

Every player well into their 30s will at some time reach the point where they can no longer do what they used to do or at the same level. They lose pace, they lose the willpower to keep going, and get injured more frequently. It's why they end up retiring.

For many it comes fairly quickly, as Essendon found with, for example Fletcher. I suspect Hawthorn will find out at some stage with players like Mitchell, Gibson and Lewis.

Given that Harvey will turn 39 not long after the start of the 2017 season (May), the chances get even higher that he will start to lose a yard of pace, get injured more often and miss games.

I just don't see why we should willingly put ourselves in that type of scenario for very little benefit. North Melbourne didn't.

I lean the other way. He'll cost nothing and make us a better side. He could be the difference between making and missing the 8, that's how tight spots will be. Yes it might not lead to a premiership but what's stopping us from having a run like the Bulldogs and building confidence if we did make it?

GWS wouldn't even think twice if they had their time again with Stevie J.

Yes to Boomer

Would it be such a travesty to have him mentor Ben Kennedy and any other crumbing forwards or half forwards that can push into the midfield, to teach them a good off-field work ethic for one year? Or do we want BK or JKH to drift off and be delisted in 2 years? I think he can have a net-positive impact on the fringe players around him irrespective of whether his output is 80-90% of what it is this year. 80-90% would still put him in the 22.

Does he have to be a player to teach them the things you've mentioned DT?

He doesn't have to. But the 1 year player contract would be part of the coaching contract. If he's in our best 22 then he will be contributing on-field as well.

Harvey still has something to offer a team in the premiership window, but I can't see what he would do for a year at a club such as us. He's not a genuine leader, he's not going to mentor a talented youngster on our list, and he's not going to be the difference between us making the finals next year and not. Pass.

No one in their right mind would have suggested that GWS were in a premiership window this year, just as no one thought the the Bulldogs would be contenders after 2014 upheavel.

Would you have classed Stevie J as a genuine leader? Most thought he was going to GWS for a pension, but like Harvey, he can turn a game.

A big yes for me.

Harvey is not Stevie J.

We are not GWS.

This comparison is totally irrelevant.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
