They have a lot of support in Sydney. The support is now drawn down class lines. Swans are the upper class, GWS seen as working class. I know a lot of people in Sydney through work, almost all casually support GWS. They'll hit 20,000 members next year. You watch. They might not go to games but for an area that is very rugby and soccer, the crowds are good relative to that. I think they're exceeding expectations tbh. A final at Spotless against a Melbourne team will be a sellout. And if they make the GF there will still be 95k+. Most tickets go to corporates and you'll see a high ratio of GWS members attending.

It'll be like when Storm won in 99. All of Sydney said no one cares, but the city of Melbourne was ecstatic.

Edit: Low table poppy syndrome. SImilar thing happening to the Kangas now that they've lost 6 our of 7 games or whatever it is and the last two prelims. A historically unsuccessful club makes a strong effort at some success, doesn't get any over 3 years and falls away and we all laugh at them when they fall away.

Maybe the point is that Richmond fans should be more vocal about equalisation than ripping the footy club to shreds this time around. They have a big voice and should use it. A club tried to penetrate the top tier of the league and fell away back to the bottom is the story here, its not completely about richmond and their culture.

If we had played West Coast at the G, in similar conditions, a few weeks ago and been soundly beaten then I would agree.  It would be very disappointing.

But we didn't.  We played them on their home turf, much of it wet, slippery conditions, and if not for wasted opportunities that we should have taken, we win the game.  We didn't win it, but to suggest that our game against the Eagles is somehow similar to the one today and that things will 'get ugly' if the Pies get up is a sad, naive and short sighted response.  It's a response for those posters who love to wallow in negativity and they'll look for ANY way to push that feeling on others.

I say get stuffed.  Any reasonable Melbourne supporter would be disappointed with last week's loss (myself included), but see today's outcome, if the Pies get up, as not even close to a reflection of last week or that it shows we are 'behind' the Pies.  It's nonsense.

That and the fact that WCE are a vastly superior outfit when playing at home as opposed to interstate. Would've smashed the Pies if it was at DS today.
