Pedersen looks to have had the perfect game for the swing/spare tall/ruck position.  If only he'd kicked straight.  Imagine those stats with 5 goals at the start.

Got to think even 3.2 would have gotten Pedo a gig next week. It's tough because there is some really good depth (B grade) at the dees now. It's just we don't have those class A graders (yet) so guys like Pedo, Grimes, might be making way as a stepping stone (eg and extra pick to add to a deal) or a smokie.

The Weed is a good contested mark, that's never been a part of Jack Watts game.  I don't see them as similar players.

He's a better kick than Nick Riewoldt but there's no evidence that he's got Riewoldt's incredible endurance, if he turned out to be half the player Riewoldt is I'd be rapt.

I would compare him more to a Pavlich and if he turned out to be half the player Pavlich is I'd be rapt too. And so would Jesse Hogan.

The word out from Brett Anderson's Twitter feed is that Gippsland's Ben Ainsworth likely to line up for Casey in VFL this weekend as 23rd man.

Ainsworth is touted as one of the leading lights in this year's draft pool and even if he's out of Melbourne's reach (currently, the Demons' first pick is in the middle of the second round), he will be worth watching on Saturday night if the above info is correct.

I think Pav played well on ball - I haven't seen that in the Weed.  I think Liam Hulett is Pav   The Weed is the GC Tom Lynch

The Weed isn't a good contested mark yet because he can't hold his position in a marking contest. I was comparing him to Jack Watts and Reiwoldt by body type , ie skinny and tall as young men. I would suggest Jesse Hogan is a more natural contested mark player and I definately don't compare the Weed to Hogan. Weidemann is a long way from rag-dolling a player like Rance.

 I think for the next two or three years he will have to become good on the lead and runner like Reiwoldt did for this exact reason. His hands were good out in front of his body. I'm not sure if his coaches have told him to get moving more but he did on Saturday and had his best game yet because he wasn't a stay in the goalsquare full forward. All his marks were when he was on the move, not with the ball coming in high and full. Pederson was much superior when the ball came in bombed.

Until this year. Whilst still no contested marking beast he is really improving in this are. Of his match high ten marks at least 3 were good strong contested grabs, albiet against smaller opponents.

I think now he is a permanent forward he seems to have improved his core strgth and he is no getting to the age where he is strong as he is likely to get.

Can we fit them all in.

Hogan = Jono Brown, Hulett = Pav and Weed =Tom Lynch.

I believe that Pav won his first AA as a full back in 2002 so perhaps Hulett could play there?

The Weed needs to build body mass and also work on his endurance, not necessarily compatible goals so there's a challenge ahead in the next few years.  He doesn't have exceptional pace, endurance or ground ball skills.  If he's going to make it it will be because he can create a genuine marking contest - take contested marks and draw defenders to commit to him in the air.  I've seen him a few times and he has an appetite for the aerial contest and he has taken some very nice contested marks deep in the forward line and up the ground.  Yes, he's skinny, can't hold his position against mature bodies yet and can't rag-doll Rance.  But I've seen enough to feel that he has the marking attributes to make it in this area.

Your analysis boils down to "he's skinny".

BTW, I don't think he's ready for AFL yet.
