Some of the comments on Vickery are far closer to hating than rating.

Talking about hate, I still hate the free agency compensation with a passion.  Not only does the recruiting club essentially get a free hit, but ever other club in the league gets penalised by being pushed down the draft order.  The club recruiting the player should be forced to give up a draft pick of nominal equivalence in order to square the ledger with the rest of the comp.

I could never 'hate' somebody's hair, I like people who are tonsorially adventurous

With Vickery,  reminds me of Sylvia, it's there, you just don't see it enough

IMHO Sylvia had far more talent than Ty.

Lyon, like a succession of coaches at MFC, couldn't get him to unleash it.

Clarkson may get more of whatever Ty may have hidden away there than the others got out of Col.

Tonsorially adventurous? I rate that expression. Could you please give some examples of the characteristics of such persons?

BUMP

I read that the Hawks were 'considering his future'.

Dodged a bullet, albeit a slow moving one, there.

Vickery was every bit as bad as Mayne was for Collingwood this year.

These guys were recruited on contracts with some serious coin attached. I think both are on at least $500k a season.

Combined, they only played nine games in 2017 and booted a whopping four goals.

When looking at these blunders, I certainly feel incredibly thankful for our recruiting staff and the superb job they've done rebuilding the club by getting these type of picks right. Guys like Hibberd (2017 All-Australian), Melksham (20+ goal second half of the season), Lewis (leadership and guidance), Vince (2015 Best & Fairest) and even someone like Daniel Cross (see Lewis) from a few years ago have been fantastic pick-ups for our club.

May be we could give him a job as business adviser to the catering dept.

Maybe we could give his " business adviser " a job at the strengthening and tattooing department too !

In fairness to the Hawks... they have been pretty good at making ordinary players look decent over the years so probably figured they'd do the same here.

Too much spud though

We have made plenty of mistakes over the years, in trading and drafting, don't think we need to laugh at a club that has won 4 flags since our last GF.

Hopefully we are limiting our mistakes now with a better group of recruiters.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
