If we can't get a Hurley type backman player, I would prefer we poach Matthew Scarlett as our backline coach. 

At some stage we need people both on and off the field who have Finals and preferably recent Premiership experience.  Now that Roos is off the books I would throw some of the money in Scarlett's direction.  For his own sake Jake Rawlings needs to move on and get experience elsewhere and Scarlett would be the perfect replacement.  Rejoins Macca so there would be some common minds working together for us.

Prising him away from Cat land may be a whole different story!

All top 4 teams have several senior experienced leaders in the back half.  thats why we need to recruit a senior tall defender in the off season - Hurley would be perfect.  or we will keep losing games when we have double the inside 50's (not discounting our missed shots at goals that also lost us the game)

Tom McDonald plays his 100th game this weekend. Neville Jetta has played 89 games. By comparison, Hurley has played 119 games.

I suppose we could always try Dunn (165) and Garland (141).

Are you are suggesting that simply because Tmac will have 100 games he is an effective leader  ?

I think its very much more about the ability to lead... Tmac cant. We need someone who can to organise the lads down back

Even if he is I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. 

He was so deeply involved with the EFC drug saga and Dank both during and after the saga he is the last person you would want around our young team.  Didn't he also get fined/suspended for betting on an AFL game?

The No DH policy needs to apply to coaching staff as well as players for us to succeed.

Who says? He's in the leadership group and last year came third in the B&F. Unless everybody wants to keep potting him ad nauseum.

Hurley has to date shownmuch more poise and discretion in play choices. He IS a FB. Tmac isn't. Tmac....really...You rate him as a leader, especially at back ?  Don't share that opinion at all.

T Mac is a leader of sorts... through his actions - hard running, committment to training etc but he is not an organiser

Hurley is different from what Ive seen - players follow him, he uses physciality, has some arrogance.  all triats much needed for us

Garland and Dunn should be filling this hole but their leadership isnt great and their form isnt either.  the fact that they have been in the LG shows how poor we are in this area

tbh...and its not for the sake of harping upon Tmac's limitations but those attributes are just those of a DOER. And fair enough he does do those things.  That of itself has nothing to do with leadership  and as you  rightly suggest he cant organise ( particularly well)

Ive maintained that he makes a good 2nd tall back. We need a FIRST. 

Currently with Tom and Oscar its a bit like the blind leading the blind. Frost is very raw but has a much keener eye and sense of purpose, as well as occasion.

As such , no. But he does actually guide the play better out of defence . He seems to have a better idea about how to, more strings to his Bow. We may never agree Maurisey. I can live with that.

I liked what I saw today and the best part of his play was the typical uncomplicated, play the percentages backman's game. Punch the ball, grab the loose ball and run and kick wide to the defensive flank if there is no other option. Well played Frosty, now can you grab TMac aside and read him the riot act because Tom cancels out his pluses with his risk taking endeavours that just don't need to be taken, by him at least. Yes we need rebound off the half back line but it needs to come thru Hunt and in the future I hope Salem, the Prince and others. Obviously the backline game plan needs further work, as does the rest of our game plan.

I was also impressed by his use of the body to (legally) bump GC players. Many times he provided opportunities for his teammates to either get the ball or have time to dispose of it properly by physically blocking or pushing the GC players off their line. His game wasn't perfect but I have more confidence in him than I do in Garland or Dunn when it comes to taking on the monster forwards. (Note: that last comment reflects my concern about Garland and Dunn not being physically tall enough for the job.)

The problem is with Frost is that he's not a great contested mark, which means that playing him forward was never going to work. Thank goodness the coaching staff have come to their senses and are now playing him as a defender. It's safe to say that he's now looking more composed by the minute.

Maybe play Hunt in a 'run with' roll on Tom!!
