Have been a fan of Nev for a long time always liked his hardness at the ball.  Many on here wanted him gone along with Bennell thank god our list management and footy department had enough faith to re-drafted and rookie him.

This has been a very good week so far with good news.  Lets hope it continues on Sunday

About time.

Very low key, 8am announcement on the club website on a Friday morning.

That is one baby faced guy; great to hear him speak.  Clearly a decent individual as well as a great football story.  Well done Melbourne and Neville.

Great story of opportunity, persistence and hard work.  Nev has become our most reliable defender, and l'm thrilled for him and his family, the footy club and all of us supporters who have grown to love him.

Two more years.

Great news obviously.

Yes, wonderful news!

Shows how loyal he is as he must have had other offers.   Like this comment from Nev: “My children bleed red and blue as well so I don’t think they would let me leave if I wanted to.”

Would have liked a longer term: 3 years, maybe 4 to push out the date when he becomes an FA again.

Edit: A side bonus is that by signing up it takes him past the 100 games for Father/Son.

Low key announcement for a low key bloke - doesn't seem the sort for fanfare.

Definitely one of my favourites.  There's been a lot of discussion about Jack Grimes and how the MFC did him no favours during his key developing years - Nev Jetta is in exactly the same boat.  It's fantastic that he's turned in to such a solid defender given that he was as close to the scrap heap as you can get without ending up in it; his transformation in to such a reliable player really was against all odds.  It's a testament to his own strength of character, as well as the developmental skills of our current coaching team.  I was surprised when the club re-drafted him on to the rookie list but I'm now very glad they did.

On the field his last two matches have been down relative to his last couple of seasons.  Perhaps he was a man distracted and this will be a huge weight off his shoulders.

Garland gets three years and Jetta only two, strange.

Didn't Garland sign last year?  Different drivers - this decisions are often around trying to balance out the number of players coming out of contract at the same time and so forth.

I get that, plus Garland might be earning half of what Jetta is but only two years for Jetta seems odd.

I thought two years was pretty stock standard.  I'd say signing Jetta for two is as expected and Garland being the choice of player for three is what's odd.  I might be nitpicking.

Are you happy with the announcement? I know you like to look at the negatives, but I thought Jetta signing on might force you to look at the positive aspect

Good stuff all round from club and player with another important contract signed. He has been an integral part of our backline and will be able to mentor those younger players coming through.

Interesting point....

How much of Oscar getting games is because of his brothers pending signature and how much because of his ability/talent/potential.

Where now for Garland? If he's on base rate (whatever that is) does he stay/we keep him as depth? Or does he look elsewhere? Would anyone else take him?

Huge Nev fan - I am rapt with the news of his re-signing. I know he doesn't have the flash and brilliance of a Betts or Bontempelli but in terns of effectiveness during game play I consider him one of our classier players. Good kick, often initiates run and carry out of defence, a decent side step, brutal tackler. A lot to like.

I know in hindsight that I have contributed to the deviation of topic in this thread, but this post doesn't even mention Neville Jetta at all.  Use another thread if you want to talk about McDonald brothers or Garland.

Line drawn HERE - anything not about Jetta now will be deleted.

One of the best in the entire competition! So glad he's signed on for two more...one of our most important players.

Nev is a gun, it angers me he is never in the AA discussion.

If he does a job on Betts this week, he might start to get a mention.

Imo needs much more consistency to be seriously considered.

Very happy with the signing though. Others would definitely have been sniffing around.

Good stuff Nev, now deliver on Sunday.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
