Neville Jetta re-signs

Featured Replies

I am on record as not rating him all that highly early on. Seemed like the sort of bloke you would love to have a quiet beer with while having a BBQ in the back yard and watching the rug rats run around, but only a Meh player.

No real turn of speed to use up forward (if fact i thought he was fairly slow for a small fwd). I thought it smacked of desperation when the club rookied him and tried the whole "reinvention as a backman thing"

He turned it all around through a mountain of hard work and never-give-up attitude that a few other AFL players could take note of.

I got this one wrong.

Great signing.

Ditto.

Awesome news, just love him, get him up here........

A typical Roos type, plays his role and plays it hard. Well done Nev and MFC.

This must be a record, 28 posts and no giffs!

I stood next to Nev's dad some years back after he (Nev) had been injured and was out for some weeks. His dad is a ripper bloke.

This from an article in The Age last year:

"Rawlings said he considered Jetta to be "one of the most impressive individuals I've worked with in my coaching career". In addition to his determination and his humility, he admired Jetta's pride in his Indigenous heritage, which he has conveyed to his teammates.

"He's such a genuine person, he's shared some of his background and life and it's just captured the whole room. Because he's not a person who speaks often in front of the group, it also holds more power," Rawlings said. ...

Well, I'd always thought Bennell was better, but it was obvious early in Roos' first year that I was wrong. Neville just needed to be taught how to play proper footy and Roos was just the ticket.

Great news!

Hopefully he'll play a blinder on Sunday, as I feel he's been a bit down in the last month or so....

So, who's left?

Hogan

T Mac

Watts

Kent

And??

I would be surprised if any of the above didn't re-sign. Watts, Hogan and Kent work well together in the Forwardline and Watts has claimed that he wishes to continue. Mac, I am sure also wants to continue, especially if his brother is part of MFC's FD's long-range plan.

I'm not sure, Jetta was always a footballer's footballer and looking back he really was one player who never got a chance to cement a position or place in the side through injury.

Two more years.

Great news obviously.

Hopefully the first domino. Actually maybe the second after Viney.

i like nev as a player and glad he's re-signed. congrats nev.

however, i do think that generally on 'land he is just a bit over-rated and certainly not aa material. just my opinion

hope he makes me eat my words on sunday

I'm also surprised that it is only a 2 year deal, maybe I overrate him but I think he is one of the better small defenders in the AFL right now. He's not quick but has great agility, football smarts and is a decent kick over 30 or so meters. He also plays a lot taller than you would expect, I think it was against the bulldogs where he just kept spoiling over and over again against Redpath (could be wrong here).

I've always backed Nifty.

At the start of his career he never got it much but his disposal was always quick and clean.

His marking and spoiling have become a feature.

Glad to see him ,Watts,Gawn and Jones improve themselves and the club after so many bad years.

Would be so awesome if he won the Bluey, though I think a 4th-7th place is more likely

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
