it's a lot more than him just raising one arm though. i note 4 different concurrent movements (not necessarily all 4 every time)

if you see the oliver tackle from a few different angles and in slo-mo you will see all 4 quite plainly

Yeah I agree that there are other movements such as dropping the knees and turning the body to ensure the tackle looks worse, but I was just highlighting the visual cue of the arm reaching up to slip the tackle higher- this is the one the umpires should use to determine who instigated the high contact.

The guy is a bloody cheat and he WILL inevitably suffer a significant head, face or neck injury....and some poor bugger will be made to feel guilty about it

If I was the tackler, I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Cheating coward.

One problem I foresee is that if he is seriously injured in a tackle where he has dropped his knees and the tackler ended up going high it will be the tackler that is vilified and not the ducker.

Exactly my point....and it WILL happen if he continues

Mathieson's collapsing legs and 'air uppercut' mentioned at length on League Teams tonight. Tony Shaw suggested that his coach should have a word to him.

Yeah, and only Barry Hall complimented the kid. The others all called it out for what it is.

Let's hope the [censored] was watching.

A player in the Swans vs Kangaroos game was just awarded a free kick by propping, dropping the knees, and launching himself backwards into a tackler for high contact. Any guesses which grub picked up on the cheats move of the week?

Thomas has been acting for years, ducking, diving, drawing high contact by lowering the knees. Him, Harvey and Thompson are fIogs of the highest order for that crud of a club.

Dermie just called the second Thomas free the most disgraceful free kick ever and called it a blight on the game and the rule makers need to change this.

He was genuinely angry, well done Dermie.

Sellers agreed. Eddie played devils advocate but I think he wanted to agree but had the president hat on.

The AFL will do something about this now that a  club in Swans, through Longmire, has raised it.

The 6 frees against us for Mathieson, would have gone unnoticed by the AFL.

Staging for frees should be reportable.

Leave it for the princesses who play soccer.

Deliberate corruption of the rules ruins the integrity of the game and confuses our already dim witted umpiring fraternity.

It goes against the spirit of the game. Another way of interpreting it is 'bringing the game into disrepute'. The head honchos at AFL House seem to love preventing such actions from taking place, yet they continue to bury their head in the sand over this farcical behaviour.

Too late - thanks to Vlad and Dill there is none left.

These umps last night apparently were the cream of the crop, so what was going on.They went a bit slack on deliberate outs too.Sydney were given a raw deal last night as well

by the umpires. And from now on because "Frees" statistics lie and cloud the issue of who gets a good run and who doesn't, i'm going to be like the rest of the media and ignore them.

The best way to stop this is for the coaches to tell their players they will be dropped if they continue to do this, they have control over the players and their actions.

The umpires have a split second to evaluate what happened and will always err on the side of caution.

He's so mouthy too, especially for a bloke who's achieved absolutely nothing as a player. even tonight he's had 15 touches and most of them have been turnovers and he's the most Lippy bloke out there.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
