  1. I like the idea of Hunt on the Wing or HFF and Billy Stretch off the Half Back Flank as Billy is a better user and Hunts pace gets lost when he is forced into deep defense. Petracca will play more in the midfield this week, now that we have another big body up forward in Dawes to support Hogan. Just looking at the Pies side last week, they have the worst forward line I have seen in a while.. Shout out to Carlton..
  2. Taking pure hate out of the equation, then it is in this order: 1. Freo (Since Ross Lyon) 2. Daylight 3. Carlton, Melbourne (2014) or Richmond (who are just insipid and always in prime time slots)
  3. Every player has areas to improve. I am not saying that he is hopeless, but pointing out that if he wants a long career, these are areas to focus on. I feel he is a better kick than his brother already, but his brother is a better runner and better intercept mark and spoiler. His brother is also more experienced and older. Like all players on our list he needs to develop and being young he has time on his side.
  4. Not too sure why people are suggesting to change the back 6.. They were under extreme pressure in the last part of the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter and held up quite well. The only change is if someone is injured or sore. As for the Midfield - should remain the same, with Spencer the only possible inclusion depending on the Pies ruck choices and the weather. If wet then Gawn will ruck by himself. Forward line, Kennedy to come back in for Harmes as the only change. Dawes will be much better next week with Jesse and I am sure Garlett will also set himself for a blinder. Looking forward to seeing more of Dom Tyson and Petracca in the middle for longer.
  5. Oscar lacks intensity and looks a little timid, but I thought his involvement on the weekend was good. He made a few nice critical spoils and also seems to have cleaned up his disposal a bit. He is still 2-3 years off holding down that spot, but we need some other good mid sized defenders around him- that will be key to his success. We cannot play Frost and the 2 McDonald boys together as they all are pretty average by foot, and what we are lacking is class and composure down back. I think Oscar needs to work on his strength and speed and also focus on his intensity when the ball is in dispute. If he can tick those boxes he will be a good backman.
  6. Based on the news about Oliver being available then I think we should make just 4 changes. Trengove for Viney Dunn for OMac Dawes for Kent (who I think may have a slight knee injury- based on vision from the weekend and heard he was running laps at training) Oliver for Newton (could have been ANB, but I want him to play forward) I think we will play a more defensive style down back, with Hunt to go to Puopolo, Wagner to take Breust, Jetta to Rioli and TMac to take Gunston. Dunn will likely take Sicily or whatever talls play forward. Not confident at all about this one..
  7. Yeah I agree that there are other movements such as dropping the knees and turning the body to ensure the tackle looks worse, but I was just highlighting the visual cue of the arm reaching up to slip the tackle higher- this is the one the umpires should use to determine who instigated the high contact.
  8. Hard to make calls on who is sore, but I am sure that there will be at least one surprise exclusion given the short turnaround and how flat we were last 6 day break against Saints... I think that Tyson, Jetta and Pederson are certain inclusions. I can see Oliver going out for Tyson (only because they will likely manage his corky) and I think that Michie or Hunt will make way for Jetta.. Who will go for Pederson, not really sure... Then the only other area of concern is who will play on Dixon? I would like Dunn to come back for Omac, but not too sure that Roos will go down this path. Trenners is unlucky this week, but lets be honest, he is not ahead of ANB and Newton on form and we had a good win on the weekend, so he will need to wait.
  9. Could Tomlinson be turned into a defender do you think? Seen him with GWS a few times and his set shots look a bit awkward like Frosty, not sure he should be brought in to play Pedo's role. Good endurance though and a very strong athletic type.
  10. Spot on, and it is not hard for them to adjudicate.. You notice every time he is tackled, the arm without the ball is forced up to make the tackle slip to his neck.. The minute the umpire sees this he should count a few seconds and ping him for holding the ball.. If you free arm has time to try and force a free, then it should be deemed that it could have been used to knock the ball free..
  11. Yeah fair call... I guess I am just trying to highlight that we are in a better position now and have given Jess everything he has asked for to date. If he does decide to chase a huge contract elsewhere- then as club, we seek the best outcome and move on.
  12. Not saying we are a good club yet... But I am just saying that we aspire to be a club that when a player turns their back on us, we don't drop our bundle... I was one of the first to lose it when Scully left, but honestly the way some of us carried on, it was like the whole club was going to fold...
  13. If he signs, he signs... Full confidence in the club that they have given him every reason to sign.. If he goes then I believe we make sure we do very well out of it. Good clubs are not defined by one player, nor do they dwell when someone leaves (Buddy as example)
  14. I am not sure whether he has played there with us, but was drafted as a backman and Roos said at the time he had the attributes of being a great KPD. The forward line is really difficult to play especially for a big guy who hasn't played there.. He was only used as a makeshift forward, due to needs, but from what I hear now is that he is back playing in VFL as a backman, so expect that this is where he will stay. If he and McDonald can work out a partnership together they will be a great back 2. They are both strong, quick and good endurance athletes. Just need a bit of time together and a bit more time learning the new defensive structures.
  15. I think that Tom and Frosty will play a key role as the main 2 backman next year.. What we really need is a medium tall defender to play the 'Josh Gibson' role of being able to read the play and distribute off half back. I thought Garland could fit this role, but he cannot defend and doesn't have the foot skills or quick thinking.. Tom is critical if we can find another similar 'strong intercept' mark type player.. Problem with Tom is, he is best suited to being a 2nd or 3rd up defender, or playing on someone who is the 2nd or 3rd tall.. If he is on the best forward, he gets exposed, particularly if he is trying to create run and carry out of the back half..
  16. Yeah, you can clearly see him throw the arm up to force the tackle high around the neck.. In instances like this, you need to make a directive as an opposition team-that if he is going to try this, then you go through with the tackle and make him earn the free kick. These tactics should be stamped out and this will certainly be replicated in junior footy or grass roots. It should be the umpires new focus, not the deliberate rushed behind or whatever the rule of the week is.
  17. We have had an easy draw so far and it looks tough for the back-end of the year.. We should win around 9-11 for the year, but it is great to see how we handle the back half of the year, particularly against the Hawks, Freo, WC and the likes, to see the growth and maturity in this group.. Next year will be where we really make major ground on the top 4-6 sides.. This year is still really about development of the game plan and implementing the right game day habits. I suspect that at the end of the year, we will not make major list changes, so the core that is here now, will be driving the success next year, and this is the first time in years that this is the case.
  18. I would love to get one more really high profile assistant coaches to compliment Goody and Macca. I was always given the impression that Roos assistant were brought in because they already knew his style and due to the time-frame. Not too sure whether they were necessarily the best for the job. Would like to see someone quality from outside the club come in- preference would be from a successful club/culture. Not too sure who that would be..
  19. I played Juniors, school football at St Pats College Ballarat, then senior/reserve football in the Hampden League. Now playing football for the Malaysian Warriors in The South East Asian Competition. Good competition with a lot of expats, we play games in different countries every month and have some pretty strong rivalry.
  20. Salem for Michie.. No other change.. Garland to play on Stringer.
  21. Free to play this week. Good news!
  22. Watched the full replay, and I counted only 1 missed handball, which he then went and got himself.. His hands are so good and he often makes the receiver move to the right spot.. I also think his field kicking looks good too, but haven't seen him use it enough.. He will improve the team structure as he will allow Salem to play outside next year when he moves into the midfield..
  23. Do we have enough coaches once Roos leaves? Or do we need to add one more? Just hope we don't go after Buckley if he gets booted..
  24. I have never created a thread, so please delete this if it is already created or not relevant... Just curious as to the list of assistants that are available at the moment, and who is likely to step in to replace the vacant position of Goodwin, when he moves into the drivers seat.. Thoughts?
