The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

If Hogan left we'd be looking at Freo's 1st this year (3) and next year.  We should be able to convert them into something like Tom Mitchell, Hamish Hartlett and Michael Hibberd and leave our picks intact.  That's where it sits IMO.  That's why it's important for Hogan to decide.

I agree he needs to decide now, but Freo won't be allowed to trade next years 1st unless they get another 1st through trades this summer, as they'll have only used one 1st in 4 years.

Very good point!  And they don't have a 2nd this year either.  It would have to be some Judd-style deal then 3, 2017 2nd, good player.

It's quite possible with those deals needing to get done and high value pick 3 that Freo are biding their time until next year before pushing it.

Freo definitely would prefer to get him next year value wise, they'll want to keep 3 for sure. On the other hand we would want to get it done this year whilst they have 3 and the fact we need to learn to play without him long term if he goes so might as well go now.

McCarthy walked out of GWS and stood down for the season. What's the deal there.? Is he like any other contracted player?

Said he was suffering from some form of mental illness and needed to get home as part of the remedy.

Will be traded like any other contracted player. I actually had no issue with what GWS did, they wanted to make a stand regarding players and I think they sent a message. Sure they'll lose out in value (They would have ended up with pick 3 this year...) but it was ridiculous how McCarthy signed a new deal then a couple months later wanted out.

If Jesse wanted to go back west next year, he would have to tell us within the next 4 weeks, as trade week starts then.

We can assume then, that if we are not told that by the end of trade week, that he is probably happy to extend his contract with us.

I don't see him playing an extra year with us, if he wants to go home and then allowing Freo to screw us, when he is uncontracted.

We have been good to him, paid a lot for him and  paid him for a year, when he was out injured.

I think he would want us to be treated fairly, if he chose to leave.

Agree.

I think he'll stay. Even if there is a big pull to live near family i honestly can't see how attractive Freo would be to go to as a club (its funny how all the talk is freo and not WC at all, though i suppose they have Kennedy).  They're now in a rebuild and realistically 2-3 years behind us in terms of that rebuild. They don't have that many young guns on the list. As i've noted the travel factor is a huge negative, particularly for  a KP with a history of back issues. And i reckon Ross Lyon would be a pretty intimating coach and i wonder how Jesse would go with him.

And there is no doubt the club and Jesse are aware of this, no doubt the conversations have already happened to see where he's at as far as extending, I suspect the future of Dawes might be tied to the outcome of that conversation.

The club knows Jesse is our biggest trade asset, maybe Gawn is the only other one in the same conversation and if he leaves we simply have to get a good return on him,

Redleg, that's well reasoned logic albeit with one caveat.  There's been several oblique references on here to the nature of the family issue Jesse is contending with and Paul Roos made an even more subtle reference to it.  It would seem apparent that resolution of that issue is likely a primary driver in Jesse's decision making.  Unfortunately, the timing of the resolution is not a controllable variable and hence the possibility remains that we end up getting screwed, albeit inadvertently.

Roos ever the diplomat  will skirt around any unpalatable truth if negotiations are in progress. Family reasons is the least controversial angle he could put on it. Family reasons may be the truth or not but could also be a face saving move for all parties involved in an effort to get a deal done.

The news I got at the best and fairest, from another of our players who was tight with jesse-

He was absolutely staying until about July. Since then he's gotten homesick and is more likely to leave than stay. This player said it's his gut feeling he will make that known at the exit meetings, which will be had after Casey finish the finals.

Faaark me. Homesick?!

Would explain his last 6 weeks of footy too. Him leaving will put us back a long long way.

Perf is an isolated country town, full of screaming meatheads (and my nephew, who is awesome)

Why the hell would he be homesick for a place like that?

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
