When we ask who is going to match up on Peter Wright, if going by last week ......nobody, it seems backman don't get to close to their respective forward these days anyhow, all that zoning seems to be the norm

2 meter Peter to kick a game high 6 goals. No surer thing.

We've seen how well our team Defence has worked against genuine talls.

I hope this isn't a game we lose at the selection table again.

That side has a lot of wet behind the ears kids. Not a lot of experience on the back line particularly the HBL.

Two of them were very ordinary last week and the other was average at Casey.

Does not fill me with confidence.

Our offense, mainly Kent and Garlett, better be firing on all cylinders this week because I've got big concerns about our defense. Could well be a shoot out if Lynch is firing.

Lynch must think it his birthday.

The only danger to him is he might fall over laughing at that defence and injury himself.

Harmes still in the team. Can someone tell me what position he is supposed to be playing? With Kent, kennedy and Garlett, surely its not in the forward line and i dont think his disposal is clean enough to play midfield. Any explanation will be appreciated

Jesus Chris why the [censored] was Dunn and Frost both dropped?

we are already being destroyed by tall forwards and the selectors decide that Michie and Stretch are better suited. FMD

Don`t mind these changes at all but ANB must have some lewd photos of Roos

Isn't that when you get games you don't deserve?

I agree that ANB is stiff though (keeping the lewdness theme going).

Not our strongest looking team. I am very surprised that Wagner held his spot, but Roos rarely drops someone after 1 poor game. Our defence looks short but reading the VFL player ratings from last week, there was a big rap on Omac so he could be a late inclusion.

Thinking about ANB,  Dunn, Garland... it is clear that the normal publicly available stats are not what puts a player up for consideration. There are other internal measures being used by the coaching staff. I just wish I knew what these meaures are.

I love the midfield with Oliver back in it.

Defender Oscar McDonald, utility Alex Neal-Bullen and former co-captain Jack Grimes have been named emergencies.

Maybe some late changes

Seems JG's papers are stamped.

If you cannot get a game when two key defenders are dropped and another three were bloody awful then will you ever?

Can Michie play down back at all?

Read the Casey Player review for this week. BOG off the HBF

Viv Michie: Arguably our best player, Viv had 35 possessions, nine inside 50s and three effective tackles. We played Viv in a number of different roles and he took those challenges head on. We’ve got some fantastic results from him playing those roles we’re asking him to play. He had a really clear appetite for the contest and used the ball well. Viv’s really damaging when he gets his hands on the ball. I thought Viv was fantastic on the weekend.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Garland back in this week. We were undermanned down back last week. Michie is logical replacement for Salem as his played that half back role at casey and done well.

May need to drop one of Frost or Pedersen as the Gold Coast will run us off our feet, I'd keep Pedersen as he provides a greater aerial threat & ruck option & actually kicks goals when he has a shot..

Gawn should be able to bounce back and dominate he inexperienced Currie and give our mids first use

Couldn't agree more. This has Essendon and Daniher written all over it again. IMO we are 1 tall short and I expect we will not win. Can only hope Oscar is primed to come in and I cannot understand why Harmes is selected after his efforts (or lack thereof last week) and ANB cannot get a game.

To me Harmes is the obvious choice to come out for ANB. He hasn't been terrible or anything but give him a rest, he's only 20. Would be part of healthy selection rotation.

Surely Harmes' last chance this week if he performs poorly again.

Who plays of half back this week? Jayden hunts will certainly get more time on the half back which makes up for lebumbas run and carry however hunt has poor decision making. salem decision making will be missed A LOT this week

To be fair, Peter Wright barely got near it last week and I don't believe Geelong has a backman who is comparable in height to him.

We just need to make sure we get our defensive positioning right and our mids work hard to put pressure on the ball when it's going forward.

Put your coin on Peter Wright for Rising Star this week.

Sure bet.

I'll be extremely [censored] if ANB ends up leaving for lack of opportunity. And then he dominates up in SA.

He hasn't earnt a game yet, simple. His pre season was poor and there is other players in front of him at this stage.

What's ANB got to do to get a game?

Be better than Viney, Jones, Vince, Oliver et al.

Alternatively, he could kneecap one of them in the car park after training but it's highly unorthodox.

I think the outs all have a problem sticking tackles.

Aside from the concussed Salem who is extremely valuable to the team imho.

i think the ins, although smaller, will give us more around the packs.

Hunt and Harmes are going to be amazing players for us very shortly so I like their retention in the side.

On Frosty,He was stiff but we cannot tolerate continual basic errors, except from TMac .

On Hunt. - he is named on the wing and I think that's his spot.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
