It's just too bloody hard.  CP5 would be stiff after getting named and not playing,  but M Jones,  Trenners,  ANB will also be stiff for their own reasons.

My tip is 2 changes.  On exposed form Jones is in. CP5 makes sense too because of the Saint factor.

Out: Brayshaw, Salem,  maybe Frost

In: Jones,  1 or 2 out of 3 very deserving kids.

Vince to half back for Salem. Matt Jones to the wing.

Probably Oliver/Petracca/ANB for Brayshaw.

Probably Petracca/Oliver for Frost.

I have observed that our fwd line seems to be functioning very well....doesn't seem that we need to make any changes there..

The mids are doing OK too....

Saints are fast and Etihad is a quick ground. Saints have a couple of big injury concerns.

To me the most important thing this week, especially with a 6 day break is to pick a fresh team. That means that if any of our kids are sore or tired they get a break. The beauty right now is that we lose nothing if we bring in Trac, Oliver and say ANB for fresh legs.

We can't afford to have slow lachonic patches against the Saints. They'll kill us on the counterattack as they've done before.

Did anyone see the NAB game this year at Etihad where Watts was on the half back flank and wing on the fat side as the switch option?  It worked a treat with his marking in space and then accurate delivery forward on the small ground.

I don't want to mess with a working forward line, but it could get crowded in there and the coaching staff might think to use Watts' talents up the field.

Hunt would be the one to take over Salems' role, if injured, allowing Clarrie, CP5 or Trenners to come in. Frost and Brayshaw may be rested. What a difference a full list makes allowing players with minor injuries to recover and not risk exacerbation.

I think Jones will be in before Trac. Seasoned hard runner opposed to some X factor.

You are joking. Trac is much better asleep than Jones is awake!

Wake up man!!

Get the players to block their ears, they should never take any team easy after what happened v Essendon.

OUT: Frost, Brayshaw, Harmes (maybe).

IN: Petracca, Trengove, Oliver (maybe).

Frost seems  a little redundant with Gawn, Hogan, Watts, and Pedersen presenting tall options in the forward line.

Petracacca will step into that medium forward role nicely, who can also pinch hit in the midfield.

Trengove was phenomenal against the VFL reigning premiers, and for me should be the first replacement for the tiring Brayshaw. If Petracca is ready, so is Trengove.

Harmes will be a little stiff if omitted, but it's a tough call between him and Oliver. Probably best for him to keep his spot another week for team stability.

PG, whilst I'd love (not) the trip down memory lane, there's only one flaw in this logic - you haven't dropped Jack Watts 2016 vintage so he has to play in two positions on the ground.

Why would you rest Bugg?

Well this is a funny position to be in for us, but IMO Oliver and CP5 have to come in and it is not easy dropping or resting players.

It is being suggested that Salem will miss and if correct, one other would have to go to see my two in.

If Brayshaw is rested, so be it, as he doesn't look right to me. On the field he looks like a guy with the flu.

If it is not Brayshaw, I would probably go with Bugg, even though his game against the Pies was good, someone has to make way and I didn't think he was great against the Tigers.

The Saints are different to the Tigers and have a lot of run and maybe Bugg is the one that can be rested. He is also prone to poor disposal and the Saints will kill us on turnovers with their pace.

Unless they follow your idea and drop a tall, Frost/Pedersen. I actually think they are both needed. With Salem out, Hunt and Wagner are needed and have played well.

I just think Bugg might be the one.

Is that confirmed? They were saying Roo and Joey would get up.

They are all TBC on the AFL injury update article.  The Saints had a short break too, might play into our favour.

I think they won't drop Bugg no matter what, for the simple reason that the optics are terrible. They won't want the media to crawl all over Bugg about his goal and his lip.

Buggs value isn't in his ability to get and use heaps of the footy, his value is antagonising the opposition and getting under their skin. He might help getting under the skin of some of the saints less experienced players.

Brayshaw needs a rest, Salem could sit and a Frost could be rested for balance. Oliver Trac and ANB in for me.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
