Petracca is only up to 85% game time at VFL level.

He's not ready. Simple as that.

I believe 85% game time would be equal to around 65% at AFL just with the huge jump in intensity, but i believe this will be balanced by the fact the majority of his game will be played up forward, which does help him a little bit.

having said that we have no need to make changes for the sake of it and i think he'll be playing his first game in round 6 against the Saints.

I don't usually engage in the weekly selection debate as i usually get it wrong and whilst i can see others enjoy it (which is cool) i don't quite get why as we have zero control over it. But i guess given i like punting is a bit silly.

Anyway i'll give it a go this week. By the by my prediction will be who i think will get dropped/selected not who i think should get dropped/selected.

Assuming Garlett is fit (and i really hope he is)  he def comes in with Vince. So that's two in. So two come out.

History suggests there is usually one or two players carrying a niggle and we are in the brilliant position of not having to carry any one. However lets also assume the team is niggle free.

Thus far in this thread the players most frequently mentioned as a chance of being dropped are Bugg, Hunt, Brayshaw, M jones, Pederson, Oliver and Frost.

Looking at that list i'd make the following comments:

  • there is no way Bugg gets dropped; a tackling machine that Roos loves, too tough and a young team needs some tough mid twenty enforcers.
  • Frost is a lock - an important part of the team's structure and they will give him plenty of time to settle in. His pace is very important as is his height in terms of stretching back lines and creating macth up dilemmas. Besides, had his best game on Sunday
  • I can't see Hunt getting dropped as its not Roos style to drop a player after a debut game, particularly one who did well.
  •  Pederson: always a chance to get dropped unfortunately for him but geez he would be stiff as he played really well on Sunday
  • Brayshaw? Is he carrying something? If not i can't see him being dropped
  • Oliver: thye will definalty learn from how Brayshaw tired last year and will get a rest at some point. But not this week. Crazy as it sounds he is too important for us coming into a big game and i suspect they have been managing him to prepare for this game
  • M Jones: i'm a huge fan and he has been terrific. His gut running is important for the team.

So based on the above and who is coming back in (a forward and running, half back flanker/mid) i think the short straws will go to Pederson and M Jones. Stiff but there you go.

Obviously a lot will be decided by match ups but I wouldn't be surprised if Pedo is dropped for Garlett because I just can't see us needing all the talls again against Richmond.

Vince in at the expense of Oliver who might need a rest ((although his clearance work is unbelievable) or maybe Matt Jones.

No-one (or very few) plays 100% these days. So he's almost playing a full game you'd say. Probs won't get picked for the Toiges but will go close for week after.

Outs: Harmes - Hunt

Ins: Vince - Garlett

-----------------------------------------------------

FB: Jetta - Dunn - H

HB: Salem - McD - Wags

C: Bugg - N.Jones - Vince

HF: Kent - Hogan - Kennedy

FF: Watts - Pedo - Garlett

R: Gawn - Viney - Tyson

I: M.Jones - Oliver - Frost - Brayshaw

E: Hunt - Trac - ANB

*Harmes looked cooked about halfway through the 3rd, so maybe a rest for a week. However, I see his spot up for grabs when trac is ready.

*Hunt is just very, very unlucky. He was, traditionally, our 21st best player.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Matchups:

Dunn shut down on Jack

Jetta shut down on Lloyd

McD to run off Vickery all day

Bugg to annoy Cotch all day

Little chance Hunt will be dropped, not after his first game, and a good one at that. Reckon the coaches would be wrapped with his debut and would want to encourage him further. Wagner same.

I think Vince will be the only in this week. Has Jeffy recovered enough?

Yeah definitely close. Our VFL reports have talked a lot about how much we're managing his game time so I think Misson does consider it important.

Plus, as I said originally, 85% game time at VFL is massively different to 85% AFL time.

Reckon those roles are pretty much reversed. Jack would run Dunn off his feet and McDonald smashed him last year, so TMac gets Riewoldt. Dunn to Vickery.

Anzac jumper has been released, can't post photo for some reason, worth a look.

Now BA don't get upset but ANZAC is an acronym and should be in upper case. I know Laser does not get capitalised but I think ANZAC deserves capitals. End rant here. love the jumper.

On the Richmond forums, they are all wigging out about Garlett playing as they don't have a match up for him. So i hope to god he is ok and can play.

Wait til they meet BenKen and Kent.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
