Also on Stretch's effort in the last seconds of the game, it wasn't great delivery, but I think he was caught a little in between moving forward and working out the body contact that was to come from his opponent. He should be better for the experience.

I'm surprised more players weren't dead on their feet to be honest. It was a marathon, high intensity game, and every quarter went over 30 minutes.

"You can rev-up older teams and they flick a switch a bit, but our young guys want solutions. They want to know why are we up, why are we down, why are we playing well, why are we playing poorly, so that’s something the coaching group have made a big focus of." (quoted from the AFL website)

In contrast to last week, really liked the coaching this week, seemed to get the right balance between defence & attack.*  Perhaps coach & team are just connecting a bit better.

It's interesting too that the team seems to be able to improve their performance more effectively by being able to work out what they're doing wrong, rather than by revving them up. They need to figure it out, rather than to be revved up - in other words, just pushing them to try harder when they can't figure out where they're going wrong & how they need to fix it just isn't going to work.

* The one quibble I have this week is not having a hard tag on Harvey. But on the other hand, perhaps a zone defence rather than man-on-man means that we rebound better & get more goals as a result, so it has a better nett effect.

I like his run and carry, but we can't carry soft outsiders in the future. You've gotta be tough in the contest otherwise you probably won't get much of a look in. Stretch is not your typical soft outsider. I saw him last year really go in hard at the contests.

Lets not forget he was playing his 12 game yesterday. Games like yesterday are just the perfect experience for him. He would have learnt alot.

I'm sad I couldn't be a neutral supporter for this game, I think it will be one of the best games of the year. The loss definitely took some of the magic away haha

A couple of posters and even Roos (I think) mentioned the time it took Kent to kick that last goal. But why didn't the umpire stop the clock like they usually do when players line up for goal?  What is the rule (excuse my ignorance)?

The clock only stops if they place the ball on the ground to do up their shoes or something

Are you sure? Don't they also do it when they are trying to line up a player on an angle? If so, it should apply at any angle, even 90/0 degrees.

After last weeks debacle I was looking forward to this game to see how the players would respond. Needless to say halfway through the first quarter I was ready to start planning other things to do on the weekend for the rest of the year.

To turn things around the way we did from about the 20 minute mark of the first quarter was a great turnaround and testament to the character and will of the players. Some of the young(ish) guys really stood up, Oliver, Gawn, Tyson, Hogan, Salem, Viney.

The test is now to carry that form and effort into next week, the week after and every game they play from here on out. The next 3 games are eminently winnable so we really should have no excuse for dropping any of them. Cannot wait to see Brayshaw, Petracca and Garlett back into the team, we really missed Garlett yesterday he would've kicked a bag.

Oh and the umpiring was atrocious, the bald headed one was the worst culprit. Surely that has to be looked into, the favouritism was blatant to the point where it wouldn't surprise if there was an agenda there (betting, favouritism whatever). It was downright pathetic from a supposedly professional sport.

It was before his mark and attempted pass to Hogan,

Both came towards the bench, and got told to stay on the ground. At the time Watts was on the wing, and was stretching out the groin and looked like he was struggling a bit. He made it up forward and was doing some more stretching out in the leg/groin area.

After watching Gawns post match interview I think he is upset to lose to Goldy in such a close match, he looked crushed. He held more than his own in the game though.. kicking 2 goals was a very good effort and lets be honest Goldy got a fair few cheap goals I feel.

I really enjoy the vast majority of our interviews these days. Very honest, reflective and the players know what they're talking about. 

A few years ago they made me sick, the waffle Bruce and Green and Robbo, even Neitz at times came out with was just cringe worthy.

There is an article on FoxSports site which said before Goldstein got 80 hitouts last year against GWS (without Mumford) Gawns effort would equalled the highest hitout tally in an AFL game. The fact that he did it against the reigning All Australian Ruckman indicates how good an effort it was. They reckon his game was better that Goldstein's game.

I think it is simply that Goldstein presents up forward more strongly than Gawn does at this point in his career.
