11.45am: MORE DEMONS TO DROP?

Melbourne coach Paul Roos has forecast more changes to his team on Friday afternoon in preparation for Sunday's clash against North Melbourne, reports Nathan Schmook.

Small forward Jeff Garlett has been named after rolling his left ankle but remains under a cloud after walking laps at Friday's session.

The Demons made a statement at selection by dropping leadership group member Colin Garland, with midfielder Angus Brayshaw also cut after one game back from a knee injury.

Debutant Josh Wagner and defender Lynden Dunn are certain inclusions, but Roos said the tweaks would not stop there.

"There's probably going to be one or two other changes before we turn up on Sunday," Roos said before the Demons trained at Gosch's Paddock.

As well as Garlett, versatile tall Cameron Pedersen spent time training away from the main group on Friday.

Speedy midfielder Billy Stretch would be considered a likely replacement for Garlett if the small forward was a late withdrawal.

Stretch trained well on Friday, spending large blocks working with the midfield group. He was also sharp in front of goal at the session.

I still think Garlett 100% plays.

It wouldn't surprise to see Pedersen dropped for someone like Stretch, although I'd feel as though we were one tall short, unless they plan on playing someone like Lumumba on Waite.

Frost?

I want to see more of Frost,  we apparently recruited him as a Frawley replacement,  why don't we give him an extended run in the backline?

Possibly.  However, if you play Frost down back then I think it makes it harder for him to give Max a chop out in the ruck.  It would leave one of their tall forwards with a smaller type player and I'm not sure that's what we want.  Bringing in Wagner might mean that Frost still plays forward (if picked) and Lumumba acts as the third tall, with Wagner and Salem providing the run across half back.

So far it's:
Dunn for Garland.
Wagner for Brayshaw, with Vince likely going back to the midfield

Not really a surprised that they are making more changes and if Garlett doesn't play of course there will be one more.

Of all the AFL websites bad ideas the 'late mail' column isn't too bad, but it's hardly shocking news at the moment.

Might depend on if we're still playing a zone I guess. I could see us going with a smaller forward line to try and open things up a bit as well as gambling on the conditions.

Long shot, but we could be see Wagner at just under 190cm go to Waite at 194cm...?

I sure hope not 'stuie'...

That would be gifting him goals.

Is all this uncertainty a concern for anybody else?

Considering the importance of us making a good showing in this game, we've had strange selection decisions & now speculation over further changes.

2013??

I don't think there would be any uncertainty among the playing group as to who is in and who is out. They have named a squad of 25 as you do for a Sunday game, only injury would change any plans at this point.

My tip is Dunn for Garland, Wagner and Stretch for Oliver and Brayshaw. Maybe Frost for Pedo as well.

Why would you drop Oliver?

Only from what Roos has been saying about the young guys being tired. He has played the 4 weeks or so and needs his loads managed, may not happen but just a feeling I got from what Roos has been saying.

Dave Misson - "Garlett will definitely play on Sunday"

If slightly injured, happy to rest him and have him fresh for Pies next round. Maybe ins could be Garlett, Brayshaw and Petracca.

He's not bad, is he? I'm sure he must talk out of the corner of his mouth

Can David Mission be banned from making any comments what so ever.

"Frosty injured his toe, he'll be out for about 2 - 3 weeks" - Season ending injury

"Garlett rolled his ankle, absolutely nothing to worry about, he'll play Sunday" - ruled out 2 days before, not even a late withdrawal.

Garlett rolls his ankle at training. He'll have a shocker if he plays. Bookmark it. It's the Melbourne way. Injury "tweaks" tend to ruin a player's season.

what's the bet the rolled ankle turns out to be a fractured ankle bone?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
