Normally I would. But I'll be out of town with the family. Wanted to record it, but no dice.

Maybe I could just subscribe to Foxtail like everybody else.

If you're back on Sunday, you can just watch it free on afl smart replay - online (or on your smart tv if you have one)

I see what you are saying, but it will be a much more even/better contest compared with the Dees/Dons game.

I don't care about even. I want the football world to see a smashing revenge.

Cool. I am as it happens. Problem solved. Thanks SbF.

Or you could go to the game?

Who would have thought that maybe it's not possible for everyone to attend every game?

Showdowns are great matches, nothing shocking about that being televised.

Chanel 7 will unfortunately miss a record breaking game when we beat the Bombers by (literally) a buzzillion points.  That'll be a shame.

Good move 7.

Melbourne should pump them.  If they dont, Essendon would have dragged us to a new level that would be unwatchable.

It wouldn't happen if Collingwood was playing Essendon on ANZAC Day, despite fact that both teams are hopeless! How are we expected to build our brand and membership base without getting an equitable share of free-to-air broadcasting? Nor is it good value for their advertisers playing two interstate teams from the same (smallest) state!

So, by about 5 pm on Saturday I will know exactly how much a buzzillion literally is. I just won't know if it's a metric or imperial buzzillion.

there is "full replay" (need subscription) amd "smart replay" (free but not available until 12 hours after game)

full replay has more options e.g. for navigation

Full replay is also 12 hours delay (which is horse s#!t because there is no reason why it cant be up 5 min after the game finished... the NBA does it with their replays and they even have multiple commentary selections!)

And the only navigation in full replay is selecting which quarter due to the crappy silverlight video player they insist on using you cant skip to any part of the video without loading the whole thing first.

Long story short for a $90 a year service is absolute crap (or $180 if you dont take the time to read the T&C) but given I cant get foxtel thats the best we have :(

90% of the population would much rather watch the Showdown. Channel 7 should always put the interests of the majority first, rather than worrying about supporters of the teams playing.

Collingwood and Hawthorn have the largest memberships, but still accounted for less than 18% combined of total memberships in 2015. That means that at least 82% of the population would rather watch the best game each week, rather than watching the most popular teams play.

I dream that Channel 7 would put the interests of the competition first. But I know that's a dream that won't come true.

thanks aw, didn't realise full replay was that bad, having never used it. i just presumed it wouldn't have the restrictions of smart replay

while we're on about ch7, anyone have any info when they will go full hd (1080)? i don't consider 576 is even std hd. std hd is 720 anywhere else in the world

TBH it is worth the money for someone like me who will watch other games from other teams. And what you can do is watch on multiple devices at once so if you go in on it with a few friends you can cut the price down a bit and both be looged in at different houses watching at once. But if you just get it to watch the 4 or 5 melbourne games you cant make it to... then probably not worth it.

If we show consistent improved play, we will be rewarded with better time slots and therefore more free-to-air coverage.

It is also a smart financial decision for Channel 7 for two reasons. Firstly, advertisers would be willing to pay more for air time in what (on paper at least) should be a more equitable game. This time, it isn't the Demons that are the perceived negative in the matchup, as compared to past seasons.

Secondly, Channel 7 won't have to fork out all the cash associated with running two different telecasts. As a national network, it has to make the best financial decisions on a national scale.

No extra cash involved, cameras commentators everything is done, anyway rather watch in HD no ads on Foxtel

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
