As Garlett didn't play last week, why isn't he on the injury list as 'test'?

Correct!

And for your correct answer, you win the grand prize of a Calotto Ham that will be sent to you in the mail.

Calotto, the great taste of ham.  Mmmmm!

When did VDB do his ankle?  Or was it a week or two back maybe?

I would have to think this is residual from his NAB injury and has pulled up sore on the weekend, he was limping quite a bit after the game. Hopefully he can just have a week or 2 off it again then come back. Even if it is through the VFL.

Edit: I have no medical expertise or reason for this estimation, could be out for 6 months for all i know, or maybe he could play this week but they are playing it safe.

We (along with all the other clubs) might have to start easing the loads on our potential replacement players when any of those in the senior side are out injured or due for a 'rest' ... there will be unintended consequences with more continuous play being in operation and with the rotations being slashed.

So, in a nutshell, those playing for Casey who are next in line might only play 3 quarters, a half or even less than half a full game whenever applicable ... Rodney Eade talked about giving players a bye after 6 weeks but if that is to happen, it has to be staggered.  The bench players in soccer are often kept fresh for future encounters and footy could head down the same path.

More and more, our sport is going to be more about squads rather than best 22 (and that best 22 scenario needs to be timed right)  In the end, the coaches are going to be forced into leaving the players in their rightful positions ... asking players to run up and down the ground all day without adequate rest might become a thing of the past quicker than we imagined.

Those who are 'Naturals' (aerobically fit) will come to the fore whilst burst players will need to be handled properly ... of course, we've got 100 years of history to tap into so it won't be too hard finding out how to deal with it all.  Plus, more soft tissue injuries are a possibility too ... in other words, the coaches need to be mindful of the bigger picture.

Fatigue issues are going to be confronting the coaches and the fitness staff sooner rather than later and let's hope they're on top it ... it's one of the reasons why the NAB challenge games are becoming an extra burden if those games aren't used in the right way.

just what i was thinking too. He's more than likely gone at season's end.

6-8 for JKH is devastating; the only thing worse would be 4-6 because his season would be over.

Hope he can get back to that really great form early in his career...

I'm assuming that by this list that Oscar, Jeff & Vandenberg have all pulled up well?

No. You can't assume that at all because 24 hours later, there's a different injury list ~

Melbourne injury list: round five

Jeff Garlett (ankle) – test

Jay Kennedy-Harris (hamstring) – 5-6 weeks

Mitch King (knee) – season

Oscar McDonald (concussion) – 1 week

Jake Spencer (foot) – 1 week

Aaron vandenBerg (ankle) – 3-4 weeks

Source: vandenBerg out for at least a month

24 hours is a long time i guess!

Looks like Dawes may be back though which is good. May mean Hulett needs to go into defence to cover Oscar though as i can't see them playing all of Dawes, Weideman, Tim Smith & Hulett all in the same forward line at Casey.

Or to the dev league? I'd prefer him to play in the dev league as a forward than in the Casey seniors as a defender. He's a developing forward.

Fair enough to.

Good to see Dawes get a run this week (hopefully) and see how he goes. For those who have attended training, is he going to ruck at all? I remember he can do it, I don't remember how good he was though and the second ruck.

We are lucky to have such a short injury list but it does seem as one goes off, another comes on.

According to the MFC site the updated injury list should see a few players back in action this week although, in view of the announcement that CP5 is due to make his AFL debut, I think the returnees can expect to be off to Windy Hill to play for the Scorpions on Sunday. Possibly, Clayton Oliver might make it back to the AFL and Matt Jones will be stiff to miss as well as the player who is going to be omitted to make way for the Truck.

Melbourne injury list: round six

Chris Dawes (calf) – 1 week

Matt Jones (soreness) – available

Jay Kennedy-Harris (hamstring) – 5-6 weeks

Oscar McDonald (concussion) – available

Clayton Oliver (rested) – available

Joel Smith (groin) – 1 week

Jake Spencer (foot) – available

Aaron vandenBerg (ankle) – 3-4 weeks

GAMEDAY: Match SIM vs North Melbourne

After an agonizingly long off-season the 2025 AFL Premiership Season is almost upon us and the Demons have their first practice hit out against the Kangaroos in a match simulation out at Arden Street. The play start time was brought forward from the initial 11am bounce, due to the high temperatures forecast.  The match sim will consist of four 25-minute qu

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
