Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No losers!

Hunt is a great get and we have been patient. He has elite pace! He was coached by Robert Shaw at junior level and he said that Hunt had a couple of outstanding attributes, just needed to grow a man's body. Well, Hunt is growing and Roos & Goodwin know all about his tear away pace and long kicking. he will be a regular by the end of 2016... may get H's spot!

Matt Jones has been backed in by R & G and hasn't let anyone down.

Kennedy is a great get ( as I pointed out in Maroochydore)

Frost is showing versatility and is also getting the "I belong" feeling

I have no doubt that Billy and ANB will find a slot as the year progresses

I see 3 goals he gave away or was responsible for in the 1st qtr yesterday and shake my head.

Perhaps you should watch the game rather than shake your head.

Saints kicked 4 goals for the quarter.

Goal 1:  Salem kick out to Roberton who kicks long to front of goal where Bruce out marks Oscar McDonald.  Garland not involved.

Goal 2: Salem clears defensive 50 to Ross who kicks into Billings inside 50 on the lead.  Garland not his opponent and not involved.

Goal 3: Point kick out to Wagner who kicks across goal where Billings intercepts and kicks goal.  Garland not involved.

Goal 4.  Garland kicks across goal to Lonie who marks and finds Billings 20 metres on his own and goals.  Garland involved and responsible for turnover.

So he didn't give away 3 goals.  He was involved in one goal.  Shake your head all you like but you're wrong.  Reality is Garland is obviously respected by the FD who offered him a new contract last year.  You don't.  That's fine but don't make stuff up to pot him.

Apart from the obvious..

Kennedy has definitely showed he is going to be more than handy..  Same as Bugg.. Wagner looks to be already better than Michie.. Frost showed he CAN play CHF.. Harmes is an exciting talent

Losers

Petracca.. The basketball incident ruined his chance to do what Oliver has just done. Brayshaw missed out on valuable match practice.. Hogan looks to of developed a stutter worse than Doug Hawkins in his set shots.. Hopefully just a bad game.. Pedersen will probly miss 1-2 after that "bump" I thought it was fair.. Hunt didn't really impress me..

Thats about it!

Bring on GWS! May somebody plz shirt front that weasel Scully!!

ps.. Looking fwd to Trengove, Brayshaw & Petracca all coming into this team!!! #wow

Did you watch Sunday's game. Turned it over 6 out of 7 times he had it. Looks pretty raw to me. Michie got One quarter against the dogs 7 touches with 100% efficiency , 2 clearances and one goal assist.

Goodwin has said that Wagner is at the front of the queue to be upgraded, and also said he was impressed with his game against the Saints. I'm not sure I agree, but I personally don't have either of them near my best 22 so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I get the point of the thread but there are no winners or losers in March (well, early March)...

But there are a few that have taken their chance, a few that have put their names out there, a few with emphatic question marks, and a few starting behind a lot of names.

Watts, Oliver, Bugg, and Kennedy took their chance.

Wagner, Hunt, and Frost put their names out there.

Garland and Grimes continue to do things that veterans are not expected to do. (Grimes over committing and asking for a moving 'switch' that led to a goal, Garland not 'meeting the footy' and getting beaten again leading to a goal) You accept it from the kids, but not from 9+ year vets.

Petracca, I assume, will be asked to win his position with form through the VFL and starts behind where he should be.

Dawes and Trengove are in a similar position, in what could be their final opportunity to play in the AFL.

Personally I think your'e overating Hunt. He did nothing or show any glimpse to suggest he will make it. I'm still yet to see this breakaway pace that he has. We all know he has it but come game day he doesn't use it.

I hope I don't put the mozz on him but J Watts seems to have clicked. Loved his work over the NAB cup.

I was also very surprised at how ready Oliver seems to be. Ruthless tackling and amazing handballs.

Love that Salem is doing the kick-outs instead of Tmac!

The only losers I saw were the teams we played against :roos:

Fair enough.. I still think Wagner has more upside than Michie ...

No accident that the "winners" in your list have all been in the system a year or more longer than your "losers" (excepting Grimes).

I quite liked Stretch's game in NAB1 and was disappointed to not see him again. ANB didn't have the opportunity to play (reportedly due to injury concerns), so it's a bit harsh to say he didn't grasp his chance

Terlich was not even given a chance (again). Trained his heart out in the pre-season and was on the extended list for the three NAB Challenge games but missed the final cut each time. I fear his ship has sailed.

This is Hunt's third year. Yet to debut. Harmes was taken a year later in the rookie draft.

That's what i thought too, but all the information I checked didn't say that.

*Edit - Just realized they call the rookie draft in 2013 the "2014 rookie draft".

Point still remains though that Harmes is NOT a year ahead in the system from Hunt.

Same mate. Yet to see anything remotely close that will say he will make it. Doesn't win enough of the ball and doesn't know how to use his pace come game day.

I can't remember a thread on DL where people talked him up - although there were plenty that were pleased he was getting a go and the fact that the club gave him a crack at half back showed they can still see some potential in him - which is great given that he was a speculative late pick in the draft.

At some point we will have a few injuries and will need to try out a few fringe players and the fact that we got pre-season games into guys like Wagner, Hunt and O-Mac is a bonus.

Other than the draft year, I'm not sure why you are comparing him with Harmes, who is a stronger, bigger-bodied type and looks fully-developed to me and ready to have a regular crack at AFL level.

Hunt still looks more like a kid, but he's getting closer to being ready to playing with men. Can he become a regular? Who knows, his kicking may not be good enough to cut it at the elite level, but it is now clear that he is worth having on our list.

For me its also how many players are tackling mean. My view is that its Jack Viney's influence.

Agree that Jacks set the tone, but Roo's is renown for preferring, recruiting and developing tough relentless tackling teams.

Its great to see so many players tacking with relish, VB, Brayshaw, Jones and Oliver... :)

HARMES 2014 Rookie Draft

Hunt has had a bad run with injuries. Hope he gets a bit of time to catch up and reach his potential.

That's what sucked me in too. I swore they were same year, but that info confused me.

Turns out the rookie draft is named after the upcoming season, ie - the rookie draft that took place in 2013 was called the "2014 rookie draft".

After Dunn was injured it would have been an ideal opportunity to give him a run. A bit of a shame he missed out on the chance to have a crack.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
