Peter Jackson at the 2016 Season Launch:  From twitter:

Jackson: We've finished the rebuilding and restructuring of this club. There's no more excuses.

Jackson: We know from a football point of view the journey we're on. We're committed to it and it's going to be a great journey.

Its up to the players now!  As the boss says: no more excuses!

seriously was ONE positive thread too much to ask?

Yep. Can't sugar coat things. It is what it is as Mark Neeld would say.

We won but the performance was poor against a young inexperienced side.

it's not a thread about that game, it's about the season coming

your opinion of the game has already been stated 8000 times in other threads

The Dogs:

- Completely changed the way they played

- Won a lot of games and beat some good teams

- Lost an elimination final

I don't think we will change the way we play so drastically. There just hasn't been enough of a talent overhaul nor has their been a radical coaching change. I don't think we will win a lot of games, but who knows if every thing does go right then finals must be a chance. And if we do make finals then who says we can't win one? We'll have a lot of momentum and I think we've got some guys who are built for the big stage.

Actually, we have already shown we'll play quite differently. Much more fwd defensive pressure. Keeping ball in our 50, trying to cause a turnover and pounce.

I've made mention before of effectively changing our scoreboard by roughly 4.5 goals a game ( scoring  2/3 goals more, saving a couple ) this can all come from this sort of pressure.

I see hope

just by virtue of the fact we are transitioning coaches inherently implies a great deal of change

whether it is positive or negative remains to be seen

Well no it hasn't actually. You might be exaggerating I think. Unusual for you as I usually find your posts pretty factual. And for your information I was responding to another poster so feel free to ignore my posts on the subject.

Just because you started the thread doesn't mean you 'own' the thread. Have a lovely evening.

Yeah I wasn't suggesting 8000 times literally. I didn't count them. Sometimes people do that, for effect, it is usually pretty obvious, as it is here. Are you suggesting that 3.5 days after the match that your statements are original ones that haven't already been put out there repeatedly or.....?

We just have to play with consistent intensity and do the best we can with our skills.

That half forward line pressure was a sight for sore eyes. We continue that along with strict game plan execution and we have the youth to repeat what the Bulldogs done.

GWS are certainly no easy beats anymore and i do not want to be the first team to lose to the top up Dons. Worsfold is a brilliant coach and will get everything out of those players.

My wish is to be 2 and 0, somewhat top of the ladder and facing the Roos with momentum.

There are definate reasons for optimism this season.

Pre season indicates that the players are getting used to the game plan and playing with more purpose and confidence.

Goodwin has added a more attacking element, and our recruiting has added a few more players who should put pressure on for spots.

Hogan, Gawn and Viney are ready to explode, and Oliver looks a genuine star in the making.

Petracca is the trump card....and Jones reckons he is the most powerful young player he has seen on the track .

I think we will be thereabouts, either just in or just out of the eight, but we need a good start with wins against GWS and the Bombers in the first two rounds to get us off to a good start.

It's definite not definate.

At least that's consistent with what he said last year, that 2016 is the year for finals.

The question is not so much if we are good enough but if there's room for us in the 8 given how stable some of the teams at the top are. It'd be fair to say the Cats will go back into the 8, Collingwood are a fair chance too. Also not napping against teams like Carlton, Essendon and St.Kilda (who we play twice at Etihad) would help us be a chance. It'd suck to see us hovering around 11th-14th all season again, that's for sure. We need to get off to a good start to get fans through the gate

Nice in depth preview.  His ladder is interesting, has Port finishing 14th.  Would like that.  His bottom 4 is likely right.

Not best pleased with this. To my mind it means we have played a reasonably representative team that will finish 14th and a team of pups. Neither of them we dispatched with anything like a 10th or better team should have. I believe we will finish 10th (cant finish 9th because Richmond). Gawn and our improved mid field is the key. If we can sustain the beard factor we will do well. I for one think that Oliver, if he can control himself will be another factor. Difficult to cover Jones, Viney, Oliver and Michie. They are the imperative to success that and Hogan finishing.  Okay I threw Viv in there as troll bait but his 20 minutes on Sunday did not harm his promotion  prospects.  Some good things to look forward to IMO. Repeat IMO.

Hogan (got to get it to him. First 3 1/4 would have been largely irrelevant)

Dawes  (Comminsure buy )

Lumumba (Comminsure buy)

Brayshaw (not convinced)

Petracca (has played No games at this level. None, Nahda, nil zilch. I worry that he is going to be another J Watts "the messiah")

Stretch (Still only mediocre at best)

Melksham (dead to me)

jkh (over rated because of 3 goals in another NAB Game 2 years ago)

Trengove (? Would love to see him in full flight. Casey is probably the venue)

Neal bullen (Meh

Spencer (injured, not left out.)

Weideman (Not one AFL game yet. Doubt he is as ready this season)

out as well , not all world beaters but a pretty handy lot

Quite honestly match these blokes up in our voting last year. How many were in our top 15?

However whilst I am not supporting you I also think all you can do is play the team against you. It would be interesting to understand what the FD thinks of theh performance. Did our blokes live up to expectation? In the end I just cant get excited by the NAB Challenge other than its FOOTY!

^^ I stopped reading at Brayshaw not convinced! Lol

Port & Cats prospects overrated by some IMO, I don't think either are really that good & won't make finals. IMO.

I think we can sneak into the 8 but likely be around 9th/10th this season with a fairly young core and a couple of finals in 2017. A run like the doggies last or better yet an '87 & better again baby bombers year would be an absolute dream come true though! A lot needs to go right for us though.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
