PS I always wondered, but never saw, if Jeff could have been a CHF for us.

If Jeff played in 2024, he'd be a perfect second ruck / key forward IMO.

He was always a beautiful kick.

Without wanting to put too much of a dampener on his weekends performance, I just looked up the scores and his team demolished the opposition 23.12 - 153 to 0.1 - 1.

I posted in the trade thread recently, but it seems more appropriate in Kalani’s thread.

I saw him in the Vic M v QLD at Avalon airport Oval. Where he played pretty much full back on Vic M’s key forward and was on/off the bench.

Kalani moves just like his old man, has a massive leap, he made a number of spoils defensively. A good experience for him being bottom age.

His opponent did lose him a few times, but with minimal damage.
I would have liked to see him up forward for QLD. I think he can play both ends and with growth he’s an obvious mobile ruck option (Jackson mould) too.

I know there’s no comparison but he reminded me a little of Darcy Moore down back.

As for the academy players - there were plenty in both the QLD and NSW/ACT teams - the four northern clubs are in good hands which is why the Vic clubs may seem a little ‘up in arms’.

Who kicked the other 17 snags?

Hope they weren't junk time goals.

😂😂😂

If Jeff White played perm forward today he'd have 50 goals pretty comfortably. Would make Peter Wright look like a right carthorse.

Believe it or not, a young kid by the name of Benjamin Brown kicked 7 😅. Even spread after that.

Surely that's a good sign given the opposition!

Would’ve been good for him to see Vines and Gawny with their eyes rolling in their head blowing steam from their nostrils prior to dismembering the Suns.

Four FS players worthy of pick 1 will be running around in the AFL for the next decade o more - Daicos, Darcy and 2x Ashcroft.

If Kalani doesn't come to the Dees i'll be absolutely filthy.

Grandson played for the opposition (Mt Gravatt) and they only had 17 players. He kicked 4 the week before and played forward again but the ball hardly got down there and the point they got was rushed so wouldn't get carried away with Kalani kicking 6 for Broadbeach. From all accounts still got a way to go but he is only young and hopefully will keep improving.

It's possible he also spent time with the GCS mob as well on the day. He must know many in the team

He's in Gold Coast's Academy program so I expect he knows all of them

I did hear Jeff W on the radio saying Kalani thought better of wearing his Demon jumper to the game.

I'd say he will be a Dee but Jeff likes playing the game a bit

the fact that twins elected not to be part of the gc17 academy at first chance - this year - indicates to me that kalani won't be staying up north beyond 2025

Nothing wrong with being a proud Dad! At least he’s actually been there and done it, rather than parents who never had any sporting talent pushing their kids.

Not at all but he's doing a better job than a lot of agents currently!

No pressure on Kalani.

Let the young fella play and have fun.

Still another year or two of development.

Hypothetically it would be a very special moment to see his Father Jeff White give Kalani the number 34# guernsey for the Demons and continue the proud tradition of the Father-son rule at the Melbourne Football Club.

What are the implications on this year's draft, and potential trade of next year's picks on positioning MFC for Kalani's potential F/S selection?

How does the potential GCA positioning impact that?

Hope Kalani watched the final last night with all of the empty seats in the stands. GC would be the same if they would ever make it. Meanwhile, all of our finals at the G in recent years have been massive crowds (including clearly out numbering Geelong and Hawks in 2018).

Get the same pay to play with your mates or move 2hours away from family and friends? Not sure the size of the crowds is a massive thing for a young player.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
