I think the procedure would be costly, time consuming and have little likelihood of success. I don't know whether the players would have the appetite to mount a challenge and I'd be suggesting that they take their medicine.

I doubt it - that is what got them into trouble in the first place

Anything stopping them ( any of the suspended players) walking away to another club(restraint of trade) before the start of this season?

I guess, as they are suspended, what club would take them.  Sure, at the end of their suspensions..........

Last one, I promise.

Macca, here a quote from your initial comment " PED use is in every sport and it's use is done to a large degree in most sports (IMO)"

Is it easier on the legs peddling backwards?

By "most sports" I was being specific to high impact sports (it didn't need to be stated as such)

Other sports under that banner include many of the Olympic sports, professional cycling, tennis & golf.

I'm quite surprised that someone like you doesn't seem to have large concerns like I do.

Where do you stand on PED use from a worldwide point of view?

I'm genuinely interested.

I think there is use in most sports, there are always those looking for an edge who wants the shortcut, just like in every aspect of life. I think the WADA code has done a lot to reduce use among semi professionals as you actually need to be quite sophisticated to get away with it now days as they test for all the common substances and it is the uncommon ones, like TB4, that you need to be in the know to actually know to use it.

I think drugs are rife in the US but that is due to dollars and the governing bodies preferring to turn a blind eye. I know little about soccer as I have no interest in it. Cricket would surprise me and the only drugs I can think of that would help would be stimulants for batting. There were rumours of the F1 drivers using various stimulants to sharpen their reflexes during races. There is one sport that may well be full of drugs and no one would ever know, Bernie wouldn't allow it ever getting out.

Coming from a background in amateur sport (where there are very very few professionals, and 99% of the ones there are don't earn huge dollars) I would be very surprised to see usage in these sports above the standard rogue person looking for an edge. Certainly wouldn't be prolific and widespread. I certainly never saw anything like it during my time near the top. I would think the same applies to other amateur sports such as those I started listing, and there are heaps of them.

I do have concerns but they are more due to the systematic condoning of PED use by administrations, and acceptance of that by the public, than it is a concern that use in most sports is more than just a few bad apples.

I had a look at his background and the legal firm he works for says on its website that it specialises in 'personal injury' cases.

Maybe it is a preemptive application for a gig with any of the 34 players who are disenchanted with their current legal reps!!

In a lot of ways we are on the same page but where we differ is I'm quite cynical and highly suspicious of PED use ... but it's been a slow burn to reach this point. Every year my view has got stronger.

Mine is a minority view and therefore an extreme view ... I doubt many will agree but my aim is to make people at least think about the issue.

First you would have to make them understand what that is.

Not sure about the cost but it would take some time I would think.

International Tennis is showing us at the moment why all sports should be over seen by an out side body.

There is clear evidence that there has been rigged games for years.

But they have not wanted to know.

Sergeant Schultz would be proud.

It is only now after the BBC has dragged them kicking and struggling in to the 21st century have they done anything.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
