Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You have to leave it up to the individual,  I am an MCC member but I prefer to sit in with the MFC members at home games.  Each year when I buy me and my boy our reserved seats for the MFC area my football hating wife just shakes her head.

Still a way to go however I suspect that this is due (in some cases) to people being AFL or MCC members and being too tight to also join the MFC. Be good if your MCC or AFL membership only entitled you to a maximum of three attendances for any particular team. Then we would see memberships soar past 40000!

I know exactly the number of joint MFC/MCC memberships that make up the membership tally at present, suggest you delete this post

Unless 100% of regular Demon supporters [sic] who attend each week join up, it is a poor effort and mean. I know that there are a vast number of MCC members who are also MFC members but there are still a lot that hold out and most members can afford it as it is a fraction of the MCC subs (especially for those of us paying for a guest pass)!

P.s. If you know the exact number Saty, why don't you post it (along with the number of MCC members who have nominated Melbourne as their AFL team)?

I'd actually be interested to know, Saty, as I'm one of them.

Saty,

with the greatest respect, my post is not in the slightest bit disparaging and was prompted by the fact that l have watched the mighty Dees for five decades from the MCC reserve and have got to know most of the regular supporters on Level 2. Whilst most are MFC member, there are a number that aren't and for casual/occasional supporters the percentage drops rapidly. My comments still stand!

(And if it is not your place to divulge numbers, why boast about your inside knowledge in the first instance)?

Saty, can you elaborate?

I'm both an MCC and MFC member and it's a stretch to pay both, but I feel the club needs the support.

I'd be interested to know what % off MCC are not also club members.

I am not boasting, because of certain activities I do, I have knowledge re numbers, I just felt that your remarks were disparaging and as I knew 'a fact' I should point that out, if they weren't meant to be, cool

A lot of the MFC/MCC members don't attend all games but still buy the membership, to support the club, hence the age old jibe about the 4 wheel drives heading for the snow during the season, normally containing joint MFC/MCC members

As far as I know the joint memberships account for just under 1/2 of the membership total, hence PJ's drive to broaden the supporter base whilst still retaining the 'old guard'

From memory there is approximately  25000 mcc members who support Melbourne. The next highest is around 20000 Essendon supporters. If the sign up of mcc members is just under half our total of 38000 that would equate to around 15-19 thousand mcc/ MFC joint memberships. Approximately 2/3 conversion rate isn't too bad based on the 25000.

That is exactly what I was driving at. It is too easy for MCC members to not purchase MFC as well. If it was mandatory for each MCC member to only have rights of admission to three games of any one team unless they also buy a football membership, we would see a jump in memberships of most Victorian Clubs but the Dees would be the greatest beneficiaries!

That aint going to happen. MCC members pay $900 a year for their rights.

Im a student, mcc and mfc member and it is god dam expensive. Working weekend i only get to 3-ish games a year so it works out to roughly $250 a game... (first time ive ever thought of it like this and i kind of wish i hadnt now)... i dont think its fair to criticise mcc members for their loyalty. As saty mentioned the majority of the mcc are members and as the club continues to rise the likelyhood of increasing that number will rise. Its more important however to reach a broader audience as thisnis where more growth lies

We seem to be adding about 60 per day. Am still thinking we will get to 40,000 by the QB game.  As Demon Ox has said the Viney contract extention should help!

If it stalls before QB, I think they finish counting end of June maybe July so still have time to reach the milestone this year.

They still have rights (and holders of guest passes pay even more) yet I am restricted in the number of pavilion passes that I can get for the cricket (3) and football (10) seasons so that my Guest can accompany me.  I live with it. There are plenty of opportunities to attend to merely see an AFL match: my suggestion was solely in the context that you 'only attend matches featuring your team' (where most ardent supporters would happily pay a slight premium rather than miss out).

History

When I started supporting the Demons they were the Melbournea Cricket Club Football Club, (originally a sporting division of the MCC).  If this was still the case, we would have the largest membership in the AFL (the entire MCC membership, with another 240,000 on the waiting list)!

I would like to see the argument about MCC/MFC cease as it seems pointless and potentially damaging. I would like to see the Club using people like Jack Viney,Daisy Pearce, Max Gawn and Jesse Hogan to promote the club and attract a whole new band of supporters and members.

Redlegs: pointless?

Now maths isn't my strong point but say 15000 mcc members contributing on average $70 for membership equals >$1mil

Then add gate receipts

Then add many are foundation heroes, etc

and I could go on...

Pointless...

Cheers,

Steno - mcc member, 15+ MFC member, father of 2 and 4 year olds who are 3 and 5 year members and can sing every word of grand old flag with gusto (they are part of the new band and will be mcc members with their mates)

I need to correct what I posted as I misinterpreted what I was told and it is totally inaccurate

Of the MCC members who identify as Melbourne supporters 50% of those will buy a dual membership   which is the highest rate of any club

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
