I am partial to McKay at 7 so I would make sure we got the mid we want and if Weideman is off the board then McKay it is.

Talls aren't the only ones hard to find - good mids are too - investing in top 5 picks has to get us good players, just pick who you think is the best one, Jason.

Highlights don't show enough, he could also well be our new Moloney.

I'll leave it to our experts to make this call...

Oliver reminds me a fair bit of Moloney, with how he gets possession then generally kicks long. In his highlights video I would have liked to see more of a balance between going long and picking out targets. Parish is much better at finding a target. I reckon Bummers supporters must be doing their heads in with who we are going to take at 3. We have enough inside bulls already - time for some polish and class.

Doing our heads in too...don't you worry !! Lol

I don't think there is enough bulls in a side. This sort of player gets injured. We need a back log of Bulls so we have a depth of them.

But not another Moloney full of finger pointing antics.

I see on the AFL website the No 1 pick is a dee supporter and he states he's been only interviewed by the lions and blues, if so that's dissapointing if I was Taylor and Viney I would interviewed him and seen how big a supporter he was and asked can we have a crack in 2 years seems strange to me do your homework MFC!

Since when do young players leave a Victorian club after 2 years to go to another Victorian club that they supported as a club?

About .0% chance..

Witering will be a 10 year player for the blues.

He may well be a good player but you're building him up to be the greatest talent since G Ablett. Each post gets a little more delusional. He may also be a bust.

Dont get if you don't ask Carlton are huge chance to end up like our last 9 seasons maybe worse he might get disillusioned you just never can tell, I actually think the lions list is a lot better shape than the blues so that's not saying much they lost Menzel and recruited god knows how many duds from GWS, at least our duds were VFL standard I think the blues are in for a world of hurt.

Weideman was just featured on Channel 9 news - grandpa and dad interviewed too.

Of course this is just my opinion, but I challenge everyone to talk to their non MFC supporting friends and see who they would want to take from our team. The list is pretty small, most won't even be aware of the names that keep being bandied about as filling our great midfield. Conversations I have had reveal everyone wants Hogan, most would be happy Jones, Vince, Brayshaw and T Mcac. My SA and Hawk supporting friends all rate Viney. Then there is a small smattering of interest based more on supercoach results than anything else. To up the ante, I ask who they would trade a first round pick for and the list shrinks even further (Jones, Brayshaw and Hogan); if we talk top 10 then you can drop Jones out.

So other teams look out our great midfield as Jones and Brayshaw; with support from the 2V's; Even St Kilda can beat this!!!!

I reckon in twelve months time you could add Salem and Petracca to that list and hopefully Trenners as well.

Omg....if Trenners comes good, The Curse is lifted and we'll play finals.

We don't have a lot of mids - its a myth.

This perception is much like my wife's recollection of child birth - like the footy season as time moves on from the event, her recollection of the pain dims more an more to the point we start believing it wasn't bad.

If we are honest the only other player that has even performed consistently (more than 10 games) in the midfield at an above average level is Tyson.

Drafting is actually a simple concept: You take the best player available regardless of position or type - you then trade for positions/types preferably identifying the need before it is urgent (reducing other teams position of strength which they gain when they know your filling a weakness).

It's not...we don't have any real 'A' graders, a couple like Jones and Vince on the edge, Tyson and Viney maybe ready to step up a notch, Trekkers hopefully, Salem ready to move in, then another bunch led by Brayshaw at the start of there career.

This is what happens in a developing team down in the bottom part of the ladder. Add another 1 or 2 mid kids in the draft is not going to change much for us next season. What will is the development of the kids we have.

We have plenty of mids, will we get some 'A' graders and maybe a elite out of the bunch we have. I'm pretty hopeful.

I would to, this is why I raised it. We just don't see enough of his all-round game to judge.

It's also why I trust the pros have had a good look at him and will make the right decision for us.

I'm sure there a few others as well , always do the homework DD cover all bases you never know your luck.

Other than athleticism, I'd like to know what skills you see in Frost to suggest he can be a handy forward?

As for EQ's draft analysis, she's basically covered every likely scenario for picks 3 and 7. Hardly informative, but also suggests that the club hasn't given her any inclination as to who we're likely to pick.

I remember watching his highlights last year before/after we picked him up. I would say reads the play well and can take a grab, not sure about his kicking.

So, we just need Carlton to butcher Weitering's body for two years, and then pay him a fortune to come to Melbourne? Good luck with that.

How many is plenty?

Jones and Vince for the next few years.

Medium term could be: Trengove and Vanders.

Long term should be: Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, and Petracca.

Long term could be: Salem, Kent, ANB, and Harmes.

We will need a midfield that bats deep to do any damage in finals and I would say about 10 players would have to run through the middle.

If I am wrong about Harmes, ANB, and Salem becoming mids we are down to 9. If Tyson, Kent, Trengove, and Petracca continue to struggle with injury then we are decidedly thin.

We are down on quality absolutely, but we are also down on quantity of AFL-level mids to fill out the rotation.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
