Yes I know it's not MFC (or even AFL for that matter) related, but this man was an unbelievable athlete and I thought this sad news was worthy of first posting here where it would be seen rather than hidden away in the Other Sports forum to where it will undoubtedly be moved at some point:

Thanks hardtack. Jonah was indeed an outstanding athlete, and his passing at the very young age of 40 is extremely sad.

Played rugbg as a little tacker and he was one of my heroes. Could run through a brick wall he was such.a powerful beast.

Rip..

I didn't mind when the All Blacks beat The Wallabies when Jonah was playing....He was THAT good

But it is such a rough game Rugby..I am sure it contributed to this early death....He has been sick a long time.

Rest Big Fella...

Had kidney disease since he was 20, don't think rugby contributed to that.

Too soon, far too soon. Players of Jonah's stature are entitled to long lives reflecting on past glories.

Anyone who saw him in his pomp will now have to carry the memories for him, but it hardly seems enough.

Yep being smacked in the kidneys regularly when they are not functioning greatly in the first place is a sure sign of a long life.

But i am sure you will disagree...

It's your right Stuie...

An awesome athlete and good bloke, it really makes me think that the stars that burn twice as bright, burn half as long.

He had a kidney disease as a result of an (I think mosquito) infection, common to islanders. Nothing to do with Rugby, it was the reason he retired young was risk to kidneys.

Another good one here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INwa7sfAh28

I grew up in Auckland and worked at Eden Park and so was lucky enough to see most of his games there live from right on the sideline.

Even got to shake his hand and have him sign my shirt out in the middle of the pitch after the Blues won the first year of what was then the Super 12.

Absolute legend of the game that quite literally changed the way it was played.

Some of the stuff he did was ridiculous.

The steam rolling of Mike Catt in the 1995 World Cup semi was probably the most famous try, but there are plenty of other memorable ones.

Really sad to see him go, and so young. :(

Dr John.

Nobody is .

The words "nasty ,brutish and short" come to mind.

The most powerful Rugby player is not exempt .

Nor was Jimi,James,(Morrison)Janis or James(Dean)-who got 13 or less years on this beautiful planet.

Amongst other less famous genius.

Grow up. This thread is about Jonah Lomu not your need for point scoring.

On reflection, I might as well add this, despite risking that it concedes to your efforts at thread-jacking: if you knew your Hobbes you'd also know that it's the social contract that in fact stops the condition of human life from being 'nasty, brutish and short'. The social contract and all its possibilities couldn't save Jonah. Comparing his death to those entirely preventable deaths of self-indulgent 'stars' is no more than insulting.

RIP big man.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
