Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Very confident two of Curnow, Francis or Parish will be ours.

Will even go as far to say I reckon we'll have Francis at 7!

For me it's a quesation of Parish or Curnow at 3.....

I'd love for it to be Curnow + Francis.

Both are big-bodied and capable of running through the mid-field or any other position on the ground (minus ruck). Have one up forward and the other down back

I agree that would be unbelievable if we could get one of those two player combo's Parish/Francis or Parish/Curnow or even Curnow/Francis.

But can't see it happening. After we draft Parish (for example) Francis, Weideman, Curnow will be picked by Essendon and GoldCoast.

Right?

I'm not going to take their word as gospel but trade radio yesterday, Barrett and Wallace were iffy on whether Weidermann would actually be picked that high after missing lots of games. They thought he'd slide a bit. I'll put some blind hope in that theory for a bit.

My mail is that Curnow is not nearly as competitive as Parish. He also "struggles defensively", which I also picked up on when I watched him this year. When the ball hit the deck after a marking contest, there wasn't a whole lot of effort to apply pressure from Curnow. Also, the Stringer/Darling comparisons are off. He's not nearly as explosive, and this is evident in his sprint times from the combine.

Even this far out from the draft, I'm pretty comfortable saying that I'm 95% confident Parish will be playing in red and blue next year.

Pick 7 is harder to pick, but I think at this stage Weideman is most likely to be selected based on who I expect to be available.

People need to realise that by pick 7

Weitering, Curnow, Schache, Francis, Parish and Weideman will likely be gone.

Leaving us to choose from

Milera

Mathieson

Balic

I think we are all talking a little in circles here.

The things we know - we had a player in mind for pick 3 who was not going to be there at pick 6. There are 3 contenders for that: Parish, Francis, and Curnow. Considering the amount of time we spent with Parish, we assume it is him.

Mahoney has said pick 7 is best available. So that is who we will take. The experts say that Ess rate Parish, Curnow, Milera, Francis, Tucker; GC rate Francis and Mileria and Melb rate Parish, Curnow, Weiderman. We have also spent time with Balic.

In the 5 picks from 3-7, we can only be certain at this time that Parish and Francis will be taken. Mileria has rocketed up the boards, Weiderman has only been brought into the conversation because of our need for a buddy for Hogan. I think we are over-rating Weiderman as a top 3 pick at the moment. He's been injured all year and Lever dropped to 11 and Lever had shown more. Curnow has always been around the mark but there are question marks because he didnt play.

Others we need to think about are Tucker, Matherson, Balic (seriously he might end up a Dee), and Burton. They are all going to be looked at hard in the next few weeks by the media. The team will already know the draft order, but Essendon hold all the cards now. They must know who we are taking at 3.

I know nothing about future players but i have to say i would be concerned about picking up Weideman given the fact that he suffered this year from a foot fracture. Even though Jetts and Garland overcame foot fractures we have first hand experience of how difficult it can be to get back from one with Clark and Trenners.

That said i have no idea what the actual fracture was and it may not have been a navicular. Still any foot issue is a worry.

Don't be so glum binman. If it really is cause for concern, we'll just have it amputated. Problem solved as it has totally been removed!

Either Parish/Weideman or Parish/Balic for mine. But my understanding of this year's draftees isn't as good as last year's or the year before.

Interesting that the more I trust our recruiters to get it right, the less research I do on the next draft crop.

Yes this is I think why we will pick Parish over Curnow. We want to keep our string of compeditive high intensity/tackling young players to go with Brayshaw, Harmes, Petracca etc.

Essendon are in the same boat as us. Want a mid and a key position player. We will make life annoying for them if we pick Parish. They might go with the combination: Matherson or Balic and Curnow or Francis. Gives us much more options I think if we stick with Parish at 3.

This is what gives me hope that Francis could slip to us at 7.

We take Parish & Essendon grab Curnow or Weideman (key forward) and the best mid (Balic or Matheison). Gold Coast who I get the impression are thinking outside the square go with Millera leaving Francis to us.

What gives you the impression they're thinking outside the square? I would have thought they might want another marking tall (ala Francis) to replace Dixon.

They're willingness to trade down from 3 to 6. To me it means that they're confident who they'd of taken at 3 will still be there at 6. Similar when we traded down from 2 to 9 a few years back.

Add the fact Bennell's gone, questions marks over Prestia & O'Meara beyond 2016 and father time re: Ablett/Ritschitelli, I can see them looking for some more x factor and depth into that midfield/half forward area.

I'd like to go:
Pick 3: Hopper - GWS match

Pick 4: Kennedy

And hope GWS decide not to match the second pick.. Kennedy has size, marking ability, a good dash of pace and kicks goals.

If that were to happen then Essendon and Gold Coast would take their pick of 3 of Parish, Weiderman, Curnow, Francis, Milera and we'd get whoever was left.

Curnow or Milera would be my pick of that lot. Goal kicking forwards with excitement and athleticism to play in the midfield.

Parish is a good player, but I'm not sure he's the dynamite running and silky skilled midfielder we need and he might be a bit small and slight for half back or inside mid. On limited vision I've seen he reminds me of Adam Treloar more than the dashing wingman we need. If that's the case I think we should draft him as best available more than for a needs basis.

Will be interesting to see what Carlton/Brisbane do with picks 1/2. Carlton are deficient everywhere but they a re sorely lacking midfield depth. They may end up going for Parish at 1 with Brisbane taking Weitering at 2.

1. Weitering

2. Schache

Lock it in.

Think there's next to no chance of us budding on any GWS players.

Expect us to bid on Mills though.

Francis looks very much a half back flanker/3rd tall defender and maybe midfielder at AFL level.

I don't see him being a forward and certainly not a key forward. Intercept marking and using his size inside seem more his go. I think his size stands out at junior level but at AFL level he won't be all that imposing and might suffer from limited athleticism

We've done well out of being friends with GWS.

They are now down on list numbers and about to start drafting much more home grown talent. It would be a nice time to end that relationship.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
