His latest clips certainly show he's the complete package, and his kicking is sublime right out to 55 meters, as his shots on goal show. Talented kid, I don't recall Ben Cousins being that penetrating a kick.

We'll be taking Parish with pick 3. Essendon wanted him with pick 4 so we made the deal with Gold Coast to get pick 3 and pinch him. Bookmark it.

He's the best midfielder in the draft (after Hopper who goes to GWS as an academy pick). His decision marking and skills are elite. He's not super quick, but reads the play well so he always gets to where the ball heads. Despite his size he isn't a pure outside midfielder like some peg him to be. He's more than capable of winning his own ball as his stats say. Roughly half his possessions are contested and he usually gets 7-8 clearances a game. He'll be at worst a solid midfielder at AFL level, and at best he'll be elite. Lucky we get him with pick 3!

Pick 7 will be whoever falls. Hoping Francis slips through to us there as he is super talented, but will be happy with whoever the club chooses. It's nice to finally trust the club to get these decisions right!

Hawthorn just won a flag with 6 genuine mids; namely, Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Shiel, Hill and Smith. I'm happy to throw in Roughead to make it 7, although he spends more time in the forward-line than a typical mid. Burgoyne def/mid, Rioli for/mid, and Duryea def/mid help make up the numbers/rotations.

Forming our core rotations over the next 2-3 years will be Jones, Vince, Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem, vandenBerg, Stretch, ANB, Melksham, Kennedy, Bugg and perhaps Harmes and Trengove with some luck. I accept that not all are proven, but that is 15 names of varying degrees who will rotate through the midfield and I have no doubt some A-graders will emerge.

We need to find a core 6 or 7 from that lot with other role players from defence and the forward-line. Kent and Garlett are also capable of taking turns.

I don't believe the picture is as bleak as you paint it and while I'm happy to pick a mid plus forward with 3/7 I wouldn't be displeased with 2 talls.

In my opinion, your view is far too bleak. If those I've bolded become genuine A-graders we're well on the way to developing a formidable midfield unit. And I'm not capping some I haven't bolded.

Given none of the bolded guys are sure things, I don't want us to settle there.

IMO, you can never have too much midfield depth. Particularly, high class, high pedigree depth and we are now (with picks 3 & 7) in a position to build an engine room that could be dominant for 5+ years.

I'll back the FD, but I'd hope there are two mids worthy of those picks in the top 10.

Kinda like Brayshaw. Salem is also a brilliant kick too. Drafting Parish, we'd be building an engine room with lots of balling winning ability and classy disposal.

I went to Bali with Vanders and Dom somewhere around round 21 and just emerged out of the back-end of the West Papuan jungle now. Apparently we have some new players on board after trade week(ish) (sans the promised big fish) and a couple fancy draft picks in lieu? I'm nowhere near up to speed, but footage of this boy Parish is convincing. Usually, I pay little heed to draft prospect propaganda, but the kid appears to spend it before he he has it in the best possible way. Seems to read the play a step ahead of normal human beings. If the better-informed draft-gurus on here could please enlighten me why we shouldn't pick him, (so I don't have to read through months worth of threads) or why we might not get him/others aren't taking him, then I would be most, er, enlightened. One of the most clear highlight vids I think I have ever seen. Sometimes you just know.

They're about as sure as you're going to get. They're just as sure as picks 3 and 7, more so, except Petracca, I suppose.

We have one quality tall over 6'. How does that work for you ?

I'll repeat, our midfield stocks are in a far better position than your assessment. That said, the latest 3 minute video of Parish is sublime. He plays like a taller Shane Crawford with a far better mark. I know it's a video, but he looks perfect for the club at pick 3.

Unlike others I quite like the look of Mathieson, but Curnow at pick 7 to partner Hogan would be brilliant. If, of course, he's as good as made out.

I know less about the possible draftees this year than ever before. Parish if you believe the word going around appears a lock for us.

At 7 the main contenders appeared to be Curnow, Weideman and Francis. My info was that GC would take Francis if available, that could have changed or just be wrong. I think Bombers will take Weideman and one of the other two. That could leave us with Curnow or to add to the intrigue Collins, who I have heard some very good things about.

Whatever, it appears we will get two very good players with our early picks and that is a credit to the FD and their efforts to rebuild our list, which will have changed by 75% since Roos came.

Note that I am basing this on nothing other than what I've read but I don't think we should expect Curnow to become a midfielder at all. Recruit him as a forward, and if it turns out he can play midfield then that's a bonus.

I'd take Curnow as a forward and see any versatility as a bonus. Brayshaw, Petracca, Vanders and Kent, whilst all speculative to some extent, have the versatility for forward/midfield.

Versatility is a little bit overrated I think. The Hawks moved Roughy because they could more than because they had to and a lot of teams move guys around a bit.

What I'd like to do is draft guys who have elite abilities in one position but have or will have enough well rounded ability to move spots.

If you are a competitor, have skills and decent athleticism you can play in every zone of the ground. Parish could certainly play backine, midfield, forward.

He is quite good, he runs hard defensively, you'll often see him working back to defense and helping clear the ball, the only knock i have is some of the bigger bodies can slip his tackles from time to time, having said that a year or two in the gym and he's not going to have an issue there.

kid is exactly what we need.
