Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Didn't realise that Bugg had played 65 games.

I'm of the opinion that our net gain this period will prove to be pretty good. Despite what some say, all three of Melksham, Kennedy and Bugg will be best 22 contributors next season. Even if they aren't, they'll be fringe at worst and competing harder for spots than Toumpas would have, or Howe should have.

I'm just saying that the trades haven't necessarily improved our list. From where I sit, it's a break even at best.

I think the whole point of a trade period is to swap out players and to bring in players that are better suited to the sides needs. If sides come away from the trade period with huge wins that means that others have had huge losses. The concept of fair trade allows for win win. Sometimes you may get a bargain.

So has our list improved? I would argue it is not worse and it has a harder edge, that may have been the aim, so that is a win. We have not made any clanger trades IMO and we still have good draft picks. No big fish, OK maybe next year, maybe never.

For what it's worth he also had the number of games he played this year capped at 16 so that he did not reach 17 games which was a trigger for a new contract with GWS.

This is the draft/trade period...

Over the last 2 years with Roos we have picked up Tyson/Salem and Brayshaw/Petracca then of course Vince/Cross and some other young promising kids like Stretch, Frost, ANB, OMac, Harmes, White etc.

It will be interesting to see what else we have if anything past Bugg for this trade period.

If not the next stop is the draft and then getting Petracca & Trengove back on the paddock.

Talent wise it may be break even, but as far as getting what we need to help list balance its a win. We need outside run and carry, and Melksham and Kennedy will give that.

Oh and we got two competitors, and moved two non competitors out.

With bringing in the likes of Melksham, Kennedy and probably Bugg, including having Petracca and Trengove back in the picture, would anyone be upset if we reached for Weideman come draft time?

Clearly Weitering and Schache will be gone, Parish probably too come our first pick. The last time we reached for a KPF was Cook, do we dare reach again?

Cook, Watts, Molan - we don't have a good track record with reaching for KPF's.

Hogan was different as the kid is a beast.

Are Salem/Tyson in the same position as Toumpas in regards to next years upcoming output? I mean, touch wood but if they're free of injury but don't step up and fill their role and position with some consistent football, they may need to be re-considered?

How about this for a deal,

Pick 50, 46, and 6 to GWS for Bugg, pick 8 and 27. GWS lose Bugg for a 103 point gain, equivalent of about pick 60 (may be a little low).

We then trade pick 8,29, and 27 to GC for Pick 3 and a player worth about pick 30. We gain Parish in the draft, which we want, and GC get an extra 673 points minus a player worth about 673 points (pick 30ish).

leaves us with few draft picks but we get the two players we want and some steak knives from GC.

That's interesting. I assumed he was injured after round 10 or whenever he was dropped. His form was a little patchy but not too bad.

Saints will pass us next year the list hasn't improved over the last 2 weeks very dissapointed I would've sent Howe to the PSD stuff the second rounder it's a crap draft anyway god knows what those flogs pitched to Hogan but I'm sure it wasn't Bugg Melksham and the other unknown

that is ridiculous. media said the saints had passed us this year - where did they finish on the Ladder? Giving howe to PSD would have been crazy...nothing in return

GCS aren't interested in any points though because they don't have any academy prospects this year so why would they do that trade?

That doesn't make any sense. We haven't improved the list yet you'd have preferred to see Howe go for nothing? One second rounder is better than no second rounder.

The Saints are cactus when Riewoldt retires.

I'm not sure if that is a troll...

Tyson was epic last year, and Salem was phenomenal in the limited time he had this year.

Then why the reports of people going after GWS top picks with multiple lower picks in order to give GWS points, which they apparently wanted? That was my basis for them wanting points, may well be completely incorrect as it did come from the media.

That was my understanding yeah, and a competitor.

Heard him compared to Jake Stringer... yes please.

I know the Curnows very well. Charlie, excluding bias, is a very good footballer. I think whoever has pick 5 though might beat us to him, sadly.

Would be amazing pickup....

There's a few around that mark, so I reckon its a possibility. After Schache and Weitering, you've got Parish, Mills, Ah Chee, Curnow, Weideman... it's possible.

Either Parish or Curnow, and I'd be pretty pleased.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
