I think once the Tom Bugg deal goes through, i think we'll shut up shop for this trade period.

Looks like we shut up shop on day 1

Another knee slapper from the glass half empties.

Nope.. just very underwhelmed by our activity thus far. I'd be happy to be surprised by some ridiculously good last minute trading...

You can be aggressive as you want - but if you cannot convince players of note to come - they will not come.

Which player that changed clubs should we have acquired and why?

Where should we have focussed our aggression?

Name this type of player, who is at least of good quality, who we can actually go out there and get. They don't grow on trees.

Sam Reid

Super athletic. Can lead up, take big grabs and play anywhere on the ground

Would be given a much bigger role at the Dees than the Swans, plus their premiership window is closing. Plus, he's only 23, which fits our 21-24 age bracket.

I would be all for trying to lure him home to Victoria. Give him good cash and sign him up. Doubt the swans would trade him for picks 29 and 46, so maybe a scenario where we give them our pick 6 along with 29 and 49 and they give us Reid and pick 14 back?

Great proposition

It's the duck on the pond look. Everything is moving fast underneath but your see a gliding duck up top. Just because our duck has been moving in some circles doesn't mean it's legs ain't furiously moving where you can't see them.

Highlights - plenty of activity today.

Charlie Dixon has officially been traded from the Gold Coast Suns to Port Adelaide in a complicated three-way trade which also involved a trading of picks with the Richmond Football Club.

Collingwood's Nathan Freeman was today traded from the Pies to the Saints, with the Saints also sending next year's second round pick back to the Pies.

Essendon midfielder Brent Stanton is set to finally sign a new contract with the Bombers. The contract is expected to be for one season, with a "reachable" trigger to see it extend into two.

Troy Menzel's future is up in the air, with all the talk this afternoon surrounding a possible trade for the Blues' forward to the Crows. Expect that deal to get done. As part of the potential Menzel trade, it is expected Sam Kerridge will be traded from the Crows back to the Blues, as well as a second round pick.

Carlton looks set to secure four youngsters from the GWS, with Liam Sumner, Lachie Plowman, Andrew Phillips and Jed Lamb all a chance to move to Victoria from Western Sydney.

I don't doubt the club are doing a power of work behind the scenes. Lets hope something comes of it in the next day and a half.

I would like to think we had a go at a guy like Craig Bird.. not an A grader but every bit as good as someone like Bernie V.

So a Bird in the hand is worth the two players we have got?

Seriously, though, not getting Craig Bird is the deemotivator? Really?

If you are looking for C grade HBFs - Jake Melksham is already there.

Not sure if it's been posted here, but the mooted trade going down for Carlisle tomorrow is:

Saints In - Carlisle, Pick 14 and 44

Ess In - Pick 5, Craig Bird

Syd In - Picks 24 and 25

No where near the same class as Bernie.

Staggering comment to be honest. Vince in his day is right up there with the A graders of the game.

Amazing how the Druggos get gifted charity after dragging the league through the mud for 3 years. Thats way too much for Jake Carlisle, jesus christ.

Really interesting tactic the Blues are going for, having no one on the list that has kicked a goal ever. I like it.

Buyer was really interested, we had chit assets to sell.

They were always getting 5, but the Saints did alright to stay in the first round of the draft while getting Carlisle as well. I don't rate Craig Bird so that part means little.

Kennedy, Bugg and Melk will be handy pick ups, but our #1 priority should be a 2nd forward to help Jess! But who is out there? Maybe bundle 29 and 46 and try to go out and get a young key forward who can play. What do you guys think?

yeah, nah

yeah, nah

Because getting a young key forward is basically equivalent to getting another Chris Dawes type mk 2..

Right..

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
