Howe and Toumpas for Kennedy, pick 29 and pick 50.

I have to say I believe this is another poor deal. Howe for Kennedy and 50 is unders and Toumpas for 29 is stupid. I'd prefer to keep him and see him struggle than trade for 29 at age 21 in a weak draft.

This 2 weeks has not filled me with much confidence in next year or going forward.

The simplest way to see it is Kennedy for Toumpas IMO. I think that's worth the risk. Why keep a player who hasn't progressed when he's been fit and available. I'm calling that a win.

29 and 50 for Howe is a little unders. But if we can package them up for a pick 20 then it's about right. A bit of a loss, but this draft isn't so bad that you can't find a good player with an early 20's pick if we can combine the 2.

The drafting department needs to be shown the door after such a poor choice.

My main concern with Ben Kennedy is I think he's more a half forward/inside mid than a pure wingman. But I don't know if Toumpas was either although he had a couple of games this year that looked solid.

Finding guys who are genuine outside running mids with elite endurance, a dash of pace and reasonable skills isn't easy.

Yes, and people should also remember that Ben Kennedy would have been taken by Melbourne at Pick 4 if Toumpas was gone, so the club is adding a player it clearly rates very highly and probably now moreso than Toumpas.

I'm happy to see Ben Kennedy at the club.

I watched him play SANFL the ABC on a number of occasions two years ago and he looked very accomplished and a player with a terrific future. Like Jimmy Toumpas, he's been disappointing at Collingwood but I think he's a player of the type we're after and one who could play for us for a long time. He'll be happy to be at the same club as Billy Stretch and ANB as well having come from Glenelg.

We don't need another undersized mid that gets pushed over in the contest.

Ben Kennedy, to me, is a direct replacement for Dean Kent... in that we can now release someone like Kent to play through the midfield where he can use his left foot as a weapon on a consistent basis. Having Garlett and Kennedy roaming around at the feet of Hogan will be terrific going forward, just as the Melksham deal gives us the flexibility to move Salem in to the midfield as well. He and Kent hitting lace out passes to Hogan will be a joy to watch next year.

Mate you can't go back, you can only go forward. Toumpas couldn't make it in a team that was bottom 6. It doesn't matter if he 'was' pick 4. It only matters what he's worth now.

We needed to get someone else in and see what they can do.

That leaves Howe for 29 + 50. We come out behind on that trade. But as Mahoney alluded to...... “By packaging up the Howe and Toumpas trades, it has allowed us to get the best overall net outcome for the club. It also gives us the picks needed to facilitate further trades before Thursday’s trade deadline.” maybe we can get Bugg for pick 46 + 50 (lol).

It all but rules us out of trying to get an additional first round pick.

Brent Harvey's been running around for 20 years smaller than that.

He's a high half forward/midfield rotation player. He has speed.

Almost every team has 1 player that size in their team. The Hawks have 2.

That is best case scenario really. A great deal of water has to go under that bridge. He has to perform consistently to be near as effective as Kent is on a flank, then Kent has to adapt to being in the midfield well enough not to just abandon it and put him back on the HFF.

Well said. I couldn't disagree with that. But it does give us plenty of flexibility and the potential to have some damaging players forward of centre who possess great pace and good defensive abilities.

That would be a stupid decision. So we hold firm and get nothing instead? Our club isn't in a position to do that. We got what he was worth.

I have posted Toumpas's stats on here too many times so i won't again, but for those who haven't seen them (ones new to Demonland), they are actually not bad and show good progress. Just that he was cursed with the pick 4 draft number, and the fact that we didn't draft Wines.

I feel like this will bite us in the foot, and Toumpas will blossom in Port Adelaide.

Now i have said this, and my stance has forever been stated here on demonland, i will move on.

But feel free to re-quote this if i'm ever wrong, or if i'm ever sadly right.
