Putting players up for trade isn't all that tough and ruthless if no-one takes them or we have to give them away.

I'm not talking about the end results, which haven't occurred yet, I'm talking about my hope for this new aggressiveness, if its true, that we will take to our desire for success. not all trading out of players is healthy, & some can hurt a club... ie: trading out a much loved player, or someone who turns into a star.

so not tough so much, having a fire sale, but rather making the necessary decisions, the hard decisions.

whether these rumours are real, or smoke screens, & warning shots over bows, we don't know.

All our trade talk seems to be about Howe, Watts, Dawes, Garland, Toumpas and now also Dunn.

I'm not sure how 'aggressive' it is for the club to be willing to consider offers for AFL-level players who are not critically important to the team, even if they are creditable and good contributors to culture.

'Aggressive' in my mind would be talking about trading Tom McDonald as a part of a deal to get Dangerfield. Or Gawn and our top pick for Prestia and big Zac.

For the record, I wouldn't approve of that level of ruthlessness. I think it comes at a secondary cost of increasing other player's willingness to move out.

Generally, when we struggle to assemble an AFL-level best 22, I'm reluctant to let any credible players go.

I agree Little Goffy, & I have also thought of those trades some time back, but would rather try to get the job done with those earlier mentioned, than shipout a TMac.

I would do Gawn for Danger in a millisecond on Dangers current recent form.

TMac, I would need more convincing.

we've all been deluded about just how good our credible players are/were... green, davey, & bruce were all overrated, as was robbo, & white in the last half of his career.

....and nunn were at all aggressive footballers... none were leaders of a footy club, except Jnr Mac. but we sure got him in the cross-hairs, didn't we... a direct hit, to our own culture.

Nope.

His comment about how we should trade Christian Salem at the end of this year because he is 'injury prone' takes the cake for me.

The guy is a fool. Try not to take him too serious AF

Sound like a broken record. Should I link your hypocritical post about Salem?

That said if we truely were being aggresive then Salem would be in the firing line.

What the [censored]

If we trade Dunn I am done with this [censored]. Most important player on our list in close to a decade, holds down the back 6 like a champion and we want to entertain trades?

I'm glad this thread is a troll post otherwise I would be [censored]

If we can trade Dunn (and something else obviously) for the likes of Prestia then me must. First of all, we have Frost have can come in and fulfil (potentially exceed) Dunn's role. Secondly, look at the likes of the Bulldogs who do not have many great defenders yet can still make finals thanks to their elite midfield, if we have to lose Dunn to gain a star then so be it.

I am a huge Dunn fan though and rate him highly, so I'd only want someone good in exchange. Garland is more dispensable IMO.

Why not just trade hogan, brayshaw and viney as well

If it got us Fyfe, Hannebury, Dangerfield and 2 first round picks then why not.

I rarely do, dazzle, but sometimes there are posts that are just so outlandish and mindboggling that I have to comment on them.

Just trying to one up olisik, but would anyone trade Tom McDonald for someone like Dangerfield or Fyfe? Just putting it out there, because I would.

yes; but not for Pestia, off the top, without some comp'.

If Dunn is traded that's it for me. May as well just relocate to Tasmania if that happens as it would be the end of the MFC.

I think it would be an unusual move to say the least as I think Dunny has actually found his niche. I am amazed at how he has built himself up to the point that he can wrestle with the gorillas now.

Not sure it would mean the end of the club though...:wacko:

The others I am not so surprised about if they are up for trade.

If the rumour is true then I am happy as the current decision makers see things exactly like me. Getting rid of experienced guys that don't lead by example is a great ploy.

No because the hypothetical isn't grounded in reality. Dangerfield is a FA and Freo wouldn't trade Fyfe like we wouldn't trade Hogan or Brayshaw.

Think your in the wrong thread if you don't want aggresive trading.

Go and make a thread called 'slightly risky trading' if you don't like the posts here mate.

Good god man. There's a difference between aggressive trading and mind numbingly stupid trading.

I feel about 20% dumber after reading Demonland this evening.

You should use the Ignore feature in your Preferences. I have only one poster - who happens to have posted multiple times in this thread - on Ignore. The feature works a treat as I only feel about 5% dumber.

For what it's worth Greg Denham just said on SEN that Watts, Toumpas and Dawes are all on the trade table.

Didn't mention Dunn.

Yay x 4

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
