Greg Denham mentioned pretty much under his breath that both the Saints and us are having a look at him.

He has struggled with injuries a little bit and has struggled to break in to a young Bulldogs side that has a lot of young mids and small forwards.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in for the right price but I wouldn't pay heaps for someone so unproven (and small).

He had a good relationship eith Mcartney.

He is a much better midfield depth then Jones Bail etc.. i rated him highly in his under 18s year.

Reminds me of Lachie Neale.

A couple of years ago, Jack Viney told me that he believes Hrovat will be the best AFL player from his school year of Viney, Macrae, Jaksch, Ashby and Hrovat.

wasnt he on our radar years ago but we couldnt grab him because of our picks etc. And given who we did pick....

Maybe memory playing tricks

Definitely worth a look...much more so than that bloke from the Hill

I think he is now the 10th player mentioned as being linked to the Saints.

It seems certain clubs like the Pies, Roos, Blues and Saints are mentioned in connection to every player rumoured to be leaving his club.

It's a yes from me.

Has composure and a good user of the ball under pressure and known for working very hard defensively. On footballing traits alone (yes, he is short) would fit in well to the type of midfield we are trying to build.

He says a lot of things, like his appraisal of Toumpas, but I digress ...

Carey's development of football in recent years has been quite remarkable. Extra-curricular activity (especially sport) will be the great legacy Phil de Young leaves on the school. My time as a student (read: player) there was during the very early stages of rebuilding - where footy was digging itself out of a complete shambles.

Interestingly, of the class you mention the school rated Macrae ahead by the length of the Flemington straight.

I like him as a player, but I don't love him. Probably wouldn't give up our 2nd round pick for him and our 3rd rounder wouldn't get the deal done. If we trade Howe, Watts or let go Garland then we might have more to work with.

I think half forward/midfield depth can go from a weakness to a strength pretty quickly with a few guys having good preseasons.

I don't feel that way with wing, half back, ruck/ruck forward spots.

THE SAINTS ARE INTO EVERYONE...This is starting to really give me the shits.

Of course they will be, and so they should. In 2 years they'll have lost all their leaders and sure as [censored] don't want to replace them with rookies.

So what if St Kilda are into everyone. Don't they have a right to.

Weren't we going to do a Dom Tyson like trade with Hrovat last year - as in down grading our first round pick for him.

Make it happen! The kids a gun

Condemned by the demonland "he is a gun" label.

But seriously, was he really rated so highly in his APS year? Will trust our new recruiting and development team to make a good call.

What a ridiculous comment.. Of course they have the right! It's just infuriating opening every article and seeing their name linked to every player possibly available.

Was rated as a mid 1st rounder, with the general feeling that the concern over his height would see him slip. Bulldogs flush with sub 180cm players now, so Hrovat has plenty of competition.

Nathan Hrovat

Height: 175cm

Weight: 79kg

DOB: 07/07/94

Club: Northern Knights

Draft range: 15-22

If not for a few cm, Hrovat would be an outside chance to be a top-10 selection. Despite being one of the shorter midfielders, Hrovat has worked hard to be strong over the ball, and he is. He keeps his feet, sets up the play, and is a neat user of the ball. He was a standout for Vic Metro during the championships, winning its most valuable player award, and he just knows where to go and what to do to get the ball in his hands.

Plays like: A stoppage demon who knocks up finding the footy. Sam Mitchell comes to mind. The 175cm midfielder works and works but says he needs to get better at spreading from the contest.

Yep, facebook trade rumors (I know) have us down along with Saints as chasing Hrovat. Best player linked to so far save for Prestia.

Think the Facebook rumour was just repeating Greg Denham's earlier comments from his spot on KB's show.

People talk about his size.

He is exactly the same height as Prestia. If Melbourne can't find an elite midfield player from Goald Coast I think this is where we should look next.

He has similar traits to Prestia

Totally agree, with Petracca, Kent and even Trenners lined up as forward mids...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
