He looks shot - I would not be surprised if he retires at the end of his current contract.

His body simply doesn't seem cut out to hold together at afl level.

I'm one of few supporters who rates his work rate and effort, but even that didn't seem to be all that great for the majority of the year.

Last year, even when he wasn't getting a lot of it, his defensive pressure was first rate. I remember him hunting down defenders and laying some big crunching tackles. This year it was almost non-existent. And put that on top of the fact he couldn't take a mark to save himself, he was next to useless.

Dawes is really struggling with fitness and form. We watched the MFC bring in some midfield talent last year which prevented your McKenzie, Bail types getting an automatic game.

I feel if we can find some talls in the draft or trade market Dawes could quickly become just depth.

His 2016 is make or break for his AFL career continuing.

Time to move on...

I just can't see the point to persisting with Dawes any further. He is not capable of being the player we need him to be, and I would much rather get games into younger players. Even if that means moving Dunn / McDonald / Garland forward so we can play Frost or Oscar in defence.

Pedersen is a much better option than Dawes anyway, and additionally I hope we can find the next Josh Bruce in the trade period.

Dawes......some are open and others shut, Some are revolving. Some are ajar, some are jambed. This one's a bit stuffed overhead and I just can't quite get a handle on it. I'm inclined now to go in search of one that works

Looked really fit at the start of the year so if his knee holds together in 2016 he will be more value than simply cutting him adrift - we won't be able to trade him - but a replacement for him and Pedersen would be a high priority this summer or next. Frost isn't a forwards rear end from what I saw of his leading patterns earlier in the year...

He lost me big time when he had a mark 45m out v Essendon and chose to pop it to the square instead of take the shot. You're a forward Chris, if you're not going to at least have a crack when the opportunity comes then what good are you?

Pederson is ahead of him for me as the 2nd tall forward/relief ruck. At his age next year is definitely cross roads territory.

He's beyond that. His road is ending, it's just whether he can recapture enough form and health to get another contract. If he does, he would have had a ripper 2016.

So I hope for that.

He was terrible this year. Absolutely awful.

Looked slow, was pushed off the ball and out bodied by guys far smaller and younger than him way too often.

And those concrete hands did him no favours. Dropped way too many marks for a big power forward.

Could not grab a ball if he was in an all male sauna.

One year left on his contract. What's the bet he does the Melbourne thing: has a cracker year next year, gets a 3 year extension on big money, and then reverts to being a dud again.....

The real issue is his ordinary ability in the ruck. Should be ok but is not. I thought both Tom Mc Dinald and even Dunn were better.

It makes me wonder whether we should make a pitch for Carlisle, offer him a long run at CHB and play Tommy Mac at CHF, while doing the 2nd ruck role

Keep in mind that a back up ruck spends 20 mins in the ruck a game, most of it against a similarly skilled back up ruck.

The 'role' is a priority - but the rucking ability of this hypothetical player is not.

Interestingly enough, I agree within Hell Bent and others that Fitzy is a better long term option than Dawes! We need another forward apart from Pedo and, out of our current list, Pedo seems the only one who can (potentially) offer us up that "X" factor!
