Bub, I think he was a prospective new employee that was selected without a full reference check and a decision was made to select him against the better judgement of those that had closely followed a saga called Essendope. But there again we have a coach....no better stop there.....it gets worse. Shush we had better not go there because after all he did not take the field but rather as a coach set an example that the players felt they should follow. That's what I call leadership. But God almighty where was the wise counsel at the MFC? Oh, I forgot, we are only talking about a footy club not an organisation set up to ensure the maintenance of ethical standards!

BUMP

Glowing in the warmth of two wins and debut of CP, with CO, JT, ANB, Stretch, et al waiting in the wings, I can't help but think Melksham is surplus to requirements. BUT, I haven't ever really paid him much attention so my question/s is: Who would he replace in the current side and/or some of our better depth players? Also is his upside better that the Harmes, Wagner and Hunt who have all come on well early?

Another mid fielder to put minutes into ASAP

I shudder at the thought.

Would be if......but they are not and he isn't.

IF they (Hunt and Wagner) continue developing as they have started, the selection table will be even more interesting and difficult than it is becoming now.

A great place to be.

It's funny how players are always rated higher when they're not playing. Melksham had an ordinary year last year, and the knock on him is his disposal. On exposed form, I don't think he warrants a place in our best 22.

As if we'd have traded pick whatever it was for a player not in our 22.  Were you also in the "Lumumba is not in our 22" camp at the beginning of the year, by any chance?

There is absolutely no way on Earth two zero-gamers would have been selected ahead of Melksham.  He was traded in as a ready to go, clearly AFL grade flanker.

If not for his suspension, he would be playing in that backline, being a part of what is going on and you lot would be grooming your pincers talking about how good "the recruitment is 'round ere, these days..."

So you are saying that clubs don't make mistakes with trades?

Melksham's CV dosesn't warrant the term "AFL grade flanker". That suggests that he's been a reliable player over several years. He may well have started the season ahead of Wagner and Hunt, but unless his form was an improvement on last season, he would have found himself out of the team.

And Lumumba's CV far exceeds that of Melksham. I know what Lumumba has to offer. But I was in the "Garland is not in our best 22" camp.

I think you underrate him.

Have to agree with this, the Melkshake would be in the team now if available.

Hes gonna have to work his ass off to get a gig Round 1, 2017 though.

Melksham on a bank flank would free up salem to play higher up the ground. I don't have the stats handy but when he delivers the ball inside 50 things seem to happen.

Jake is a superior player atm to both wagner and hunt. Will got a spot over then all day long

Salem is wasted down back. Unfortunately grimes can't be trusted down back and melk is out for the year.

This will work alright for us though. It allows Salem to continue working on his defensive and one-on-one game, which will help his contested ball winning ability and forward play in the years to come. He's got this year to play off half back and next year he'll probably be moved up the ground, if not sooner.

One of our rookies was upgraded for him, got the chance, and is playing good footy. At least we are getting something out of that wasted pick on Melksham.

As said in another post, Melksham woukd replaxe Salem on the hbf, salem would then push out a midfielder/winger.

Not a wasted pick. Melksham will turn out to be a great pick up for this club.

I hope you are right although my EFC acquaintances were all very happy to see him go and were non to complimentary about his skills (the turnover King) or football brains (lack thereof).

Amazing how nice people are when they know you're leaving.

best we all wait till end of year and melksham has done his time and paid the price

he'll be starting then with a new sheet and we can judge him on his football ability instead

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

  • PREGAME: Geelong

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
