When was the last time someone you knew died of the flu?

95% of the time when people talk about a flu, they mean the common cold, for which there is no preventative injection.

There an estimated 2000 deaths per year from influenza- not always in the elderly or those with bad chests. Most famously the drummer from Australian Crawl died of the flu when very young.

The vaccine only protects against the major strains but there are many others that can make you very ill.

Watts sounded fine on his SEN Morning Glory interview on Thursday (?) morning.

More likely to be an allergy to two good games in a row.

You can get a cold between Thursday morning and Sunday afternoon. Not sure you've thought hard enough about your reasoning.

I thought it was to stop you from getting the flu at all.

I don't know anyone that has died from the flu, even before flu injections.

I was thinking about this when Delidio had to pull out on Friday.

I wonder how many more would die if there were no vaccine? My post was in response to a question about whether the injection works.

As chook fowler pointed out, it's a vaccine against the most major strains. You won't get those strains if you've had the vaccine, but you may get other strains, and you'll still get the cold that every other bastard in the office/school/footy club has.

Fewer people die of the major strains of influenza because of vaccination.

So not having the cattle was the reason some of our players had a cold?

oh...its medical..

Thiught yiur capacuty for reason was greater...my bad.

If you havent the numbers..ie if team isnt equiped mano a mano, especially in the guts you will be exposed by better teams as we are time after time.

But hey Sherlock continue your assessment dressed in white gown

At least half a dozen of preferred players weren't on the park. The Roos far better and far closer to full strength.

Do you seriously want to go with the sniffles ?? Thats THE reason.

Might taint a situation but doesn't excuse it.

I see. I get the shot every year. Was just wondering if it really works, or if in fact footy players get the shot?

I didn't actually say I bought the cold/flu reason. It's just conjecture. I was just amused by your connecting the conversation between a flu vaccine and not having the cattle. It was an odd segue; I pieced together the existing conversation with your addition and that's what I came up with.

Carry on :)

If true, The type of Flu I talk about is the headache, lethargic, malaise that can take days/ weeks to get over.

All I'm saying is that this kind of flu makes it extremely hard to play footy, particularly at this level!

No excuse but FACT! Performance can be severely impacted.

It dramatically reduces the chances of dying from the flu - not so much from getting a modified form of the illness. Originally the advice was for those over 65 and those with predisposing illnesses should be vaccinated but some experts would say it is justifiable to become a universal vaccine because anybody can be susceptible regardless of age and the cost to the community is considerable during an epidemic such as we have at the moment.

Brayshaw played half back a bit today and I can honestly say he should never do so again. That kid plays midfield or half forward, was a waste on Nahas during the second quarter.

Why the freaking hell is t he playing more centre square stoppages? If it's because he is too tired the. Give him a week off, he should be playing out of the middle.

i didn't..others have

I was quite simply saying it was about cattle..go back and reread id suggest.

Im not the one giving ANY weight to anything else.

We haven't the list yet to contend with real gorrs.

Hate them or whatever...the Roos know how to have a game long crack.

Garlett was shocking today, but why doesn't he spend more time in the middle? Especially on his cold days, and especially at centre bounces.

Most of the times he's started at a centre bounce he's had an influence, it should happen more often, change it up a bit when it's not working, it was 9 - 0 centre clearances at one stage.

If they were crook they shouldn't have played.

26 possessions between the two of them. They let the kids down IMO.

Been saying it for 2 years, we need a good user of the football in the back half. Salem missing has hurt this year but i don't think he is the long term answer anyway. Costly turnovers in the back half kill us

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute.
